I just saw this item for the first time (an ad in the mail, to a site that won't open!). I had never heard the term, so I L'dIU.
I can't cite the site (heh) but you can Google and find this: In giclee printing, no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. The image has all the tonalities and hues of the original painting. Giclee (pronounced Gee’clay)...

Wikipedia offers: The word "giclée" was created by Jack Duganne, a print maker working at XYZ. He wanted a name for the new type of prints they were producing on the IRIS printer, a large format high resolution industrial prepress proofing ink-jet printer they had adapted for fine art printing. He was specifically looking for a word that would not have the negative connotations of "ink-jet" or "computer generated". To make the word descriptive of ink-jet technologies he based it on the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray".[2]

Is that a G as in Git or a G as in Gigolo?

Soft. The given pronunciation weirds me out, as it isn't French although it's supposed to be a French word.

Not sure why the given pron. 'freaks you out', Jackie. All French words commencing "gi...", from "gibeau" to "givré," have the soft pronunciation.

Actually, if it's French it goes beyond soft. It's not /dʒ/ as it would be in Italian gigolo; it's /ʒ/.

I assumed if was the g of azure or the second one in garage. Is it pronounced /'dʒɪkli/ rather than /'ʒikle/?

Ceci n'est pas un seing.

Oxford french Dictionary gives it as /ʒikliː/

PS - indeed, it gives that pronunciation for all of the 'gi...' words.

Yep; it's not g as in the letter G or the word gee as given, but as in zmjezhd's second one in garage.

I was about to contest this when it occurred to me that the American pronunciation of 'garage' is different from that of the UK. Your stress the second syllable and the second 'a' is an 'ɑː' (ah) sound, so the 'g' does, indeed come out as a 'ʒ', whereas we Brits stress the first syllable and make the second 'a' an 'eɪ' sound (as in 'day'), making the 'g' a 'dʒ' sound - indeed, it often sounds more like 'garridge'! frown
