Can you think of a good brand name for a surf clothing company? (I'll pay $100 for the name that I end up using for my business) My company will sell a new line of eco surf clothing, organize beach cleanups, and host concerts to raise awareness for the environment. The name should express happiness and positivity as related to the ocean and the environment. Since this will be a brand name for clothing I think the name should be one word and easy to remember (eg. Roxy, Billabong, Quiksilver, Hurley). Feel free to use the keywords below or just go crazy with your own. The name can also be totally made up (eg.Google) or totally abstract like a random adjective or a person's name that fits. For inspiration, could you explain what is the eco part in the products? Is there a difference between an eco wet suits and an ordinary wet suit? An eco plastic ball and just a beach ball?

The clothing will be made out of recycled materials and beach cleanup debris which is better for the environment because it means less plastic in landfills and in the ocean and waterways. It also helps raise awareness of the North Pacific Garbage Patch.

I didn't take any time on that; it was just the first thing that came to my mind. I like the juxtaposition of the two colors, the fact that the sea can be blue, bluegreen or green, and the implication of ecological responsibility inherent in the "green" part. I did do a quick google after I posted, and although there are companies using the name, it didn't look like any were clothing related. :0)

I'm thinking it would be better of the name was more made up/abstract. The clever names and combinations of keywords aren't doing it for me. I'd rather have a nice sounding name and bring meaning to it. I still want the name to make you think of paradise or something positive like that, but I think it should also sound good as a place too. Eg. Paradiseville, Paradiseburg, etc. I tried looking up common suffixes used for place names, but I could only find them for the UK and Ireland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_generic_forms_in_place_names_in_the_United_Kingdom_and_IrelandThese names are getting close to what I want: Prairie-- (abstract, makes you think of nature and beautiful things. It would be nice if i could think of a lush version of Prairie) Paradisimo-- (a made up name, but paradise is the root word... This has to many syllables. I think the name should have between 2 and 4 syllables) Palombia-- (this is a great example! It sounds good AND it sounds like a place. Unfortunately, this one IS actually a place in south america, so i can't use it. If we could make up something like this from scratch that would be great.) Thanks for all the help everyone!

Prairie has connotations to me of desert not ocean. Stick with the vocab your target market will respond to - ie surfing things. I quite like barrel or barrel wear - sums up the perfect wave etc etc

"Surf Uppers", or "Surf's-Uppers" irresponsibly comes to mind . . . but then where would you go for "Downers" (if it's even clear what "downers" are)? On the other hand, if the Uppers are long enough, you wouldn't need the downers. Besides, people don't ask, "What's DOWN?"
They ask, "What's UP?" and if you're an aficionado, you answer "SURF'S UP!"
And there's the whole silly etymology.
In the evening, you could offer "SurfSuppers" to hungry Uppers OR Downers.
(Please do not embarrass me by sending an additional $100 for this last line)

Keep us posted on yr decision Realizing the image is for a surf/clothing/apparatus store and the importance of the name for attracting customers, prairie to me is not the type of word for it. However the people of the Prairie states: Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma don't see our beautiful grasslands as "desert". Granted the area was once-upon-a-time called the "Great American Desert", but desert to me is the Gobi or Sahara or even Death Valley. With all the flooding out here this spring, desert is a term far from everyone's mind.

I too have thought that the name might be better off being simple ie happyland, blueland etc, but the fancy names are nice too.

Don't do Happyland unless it is for small children, and Blissville is a bit, like, totally groovy man. (You need to do that last line in a Cheech and Chong voice.)
I rather like just Bliss, and then you could have Bliss Wear, Bliss Protection (e.g. sunscreen or hats) Bliss Tech (goggles etc) Bliss Events etc,
BlissTech gives you the happy relaxed feel with a modern edge to it and the 2 syllables that you liked.
