I don't know why you choose to call your national day weeping waters or whatever, but it is your summer and I guess you're enjoying the day off, even without Google commemorating it for you with a cute little logo.

Wikipingia got something to say about Waitangi Day. Seems it was more named after a place that happened to be called Weeping Waters rather than being called Weeping Waters per se. Of course, considering the differences or opinion over the meaning of the treaty, maybe Weeping Waters isn't so bad a name after all.

Happy Day, New Zealanders! I noted in the Wiki explanaton that there were significant differences in the Maori and British interpretations of the treaties. Sounds like something that would have happened here in the Great Plains, with the natives and the Europeans having different ideas of what treaty meant. Glad this thread opened, saw the note on my calendar, and more or less ignored an important piece of World History.
