First of all, I just wanted to congratulate Jazz for his story idea - absolutely spiffing, well done! I also wanted to confess that I was so taken by the story that I've filched it. I have combinedd the parts posted by the time of this post, and uploaded them to the following URL
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/maxq/Jazz's story.html

If you take a look, you will see that the only person credited is Jazz, as the progenitor. I wanted to see how it read as a whole, and how obvious the transitions were. If anyone feels that what I've done is inappropriate, please let me know, it's the work of two seconds to remove it.

Great idea Max. One thing though - as you've explained at the top of the page what it is about, why not leave the divisions in and separate them by a paragraph so that anyone who wants to see the separate contributions can tell without having to guess which bit was which? It would still make about as much sense, anyway.

You're right - a good idea. I have, in the immortal words of Patrick Stewart, "made it so."

Mercy buckets, wow, I didn't want to engage in that aeons-old primate-grooming ritual with my compatriot. Speaking of French, which we weren't, this little quasimodo can't remember having heard "the Bel, The Bel" recently. I hope that she makes it back toot sweet.

I feel properly chastised, Max. Will try to do better in future.

Chastised(interrobang) I was genuinely grateful that someone else yielded to the urge which all but overcame me. The only reason I didn't was to avoid giving the impression of being one of those Klingon-speaking, latex-headed "get a life" Trekkies!

Jazz's experiment is great, and to be lauded in his transposition (intentional or not) to the cyber-medium. But I cannot participate, because I've played it before. It stems from an old paper-and pencil game apocryphally (sp? - I don't trust Ænigma on that) attributed to our old French friends, the Dada folks. The game is the same, BUT you write two or three full lines, then just half a line... fold down all you've written except that half line and then pass the paper along to the next participant. Therein lies the real fun, especially when themes are continued without any knowledege of what was written before hand (pun intended, I guess). Freud and Jung would certainly have something to say about THAT!

Our own resident Annastrophe mentions: The game is the same, BUT you write two or three full lines, then just half a line... fold down all you've written except that half line and then pass the paper along to the next participant.

I took part in an oil painting like that once. Each person would paint a vertical inch and lower a screen so that only the bottom few millimeters were visible. What we got when we were done was a painting with clearly visible transitions at three inch intervals.

It was destroyed in the Old Crawley Mansion Fire of 1974.
