I believe we've had threads before about bumper stickers, but not lately. I saw a good one today dealing with abortion. While I favor the pro-choice side of this issue, I had to admire the cleverness and friendly tenor of this sticker.

It showed on the left side a sketch of a newborn baby. The rest was taken up with two lines:
CHOOSE LIFE!
YOUR MOM DID.

Anybody else got a good bumper sticker to report?

Again, not wanting to stir any political arguments, just from a semiotic viewpoint:

BUSH

LLIT

better i think if:
BUSH
LLIT

only cause it would 'scan quicker' --
maybe i'll make a t-shirt like that to wear in midtown next week.

How nice for you, of troy!

I tend to hate bumper stickers, especially those that bash individuals or groups instead of promoting an idea/cause/indiv/group. They usually just make people look stupid, in my opinion.

I did think it was funny that a co-worker of mine had a Dean bumpersticker on his car for approximately one week.

Once during the previous Bush's administration I saw a woman carrying a sign that said "BUSH -- stay out of mine."

Probably the funniest bumper sticker I ever saw, one that made me laugh out loud, was a variation on the "my other car is a porsche" bumper stickers that one oftens sees on junker cars. It read "my other car is a piece of shit too." It caught me off guard, and I think that's what made it so funny.

The delayed reaction in understanding is what I liked most about the bumpersticker. In the original it was black letters on a white background for the BUSH and white letters on black background for the LLIT.

I’ve seen, “My hockey player beat up your honor student”. Since both my sons are honor students, excellent athletes, well able to defend themselves and most importantly; kind and peaceful yet strong in mind body and spirit, I took offence to this. (Almost as much as I disliked the one that says, “If you can’t speak English, get the *&%# out!”, but the *&%# was spelt out, and my kids were in grammar school at the time. [We live in New England, USA]) Being the vindictive hothead that I am, I wanted to create an answer sticker. My version is too long and doesn’t scan well: “Your beer swillin’, doper, big bully of an F student will be working for and probably being overpaid by my honor student someday soon”, not that I have anything against beer – quite the contrary. Perhaps y’all can help. Perhaps I’m beyond help. At any rate, I marvel and rejoice at the general wit and intellect of AWADers. ‘Glad I found this place (via, I think, the Smithsonian mag. some years ago). My days are elevated by youse guys.

Regarding the nasty comments against honor students, I was in a group discussion about this very subject some years some years ago on rec.org.mensa, and a fellow remarked that his father had one that went "My honor student kicked the shit out of your linebacker."

?

Personally, I find it more ironic than mine.

Come to think of it, it might better go

Here's some new BS and T-S slogans that have appeared on the Wildwood, NJ, boardwalk T-shirt shops :

Bumper sticker:

If we quit voting
Will they ALL go away?

T-shirts:

I'm not
going bald,
I'm getting
more head

Who are all these kids,
And why are they calling me Daddy?

Dumb and Dumber
(with a pic of Bush, Sr and Dubya, respectively)

I'm Irish
Is there any Irish in you?
Do you want some?
(or Italian, Polish, Puerto Rican, Dominican, etc)

(it's supposed to be a "family" walk, but)

"The Rules of the House" are posted on my refrigerator, and my children, grown though they are, have been thoroughly trained!
Rule #1: Mother is always right. (same as posted above)
Rue #2: When Mother is wrong, see Rule #1.

I saw a car recently that had about six bumper stickers spread out all over the back that all urged people to become organ donors. The funny part came when I noticed the sticker nestled in the midst of them all that read "I brake for cemetaries"

Another semi-serious note, this time a billboard erected by the City of Baltimore on a very grungy street in a terrible neighborhood. On the left side, picture of a baby. The text, "A baby costs $785 a month. What's your allowance?"

An 'allowance' for me, when I was a kid in the 60's, was a dime. Then it became a quarter somewhere around 6th grade... and a dollar when I entered high school. It didn't take long for me to go find a high school job.

Ohhhhhhh! That type of allowance.

I was thinking along the lines of "family allowance." That's money that is sent to low-income families here.
