Hogwash – Frist
A. Delay or respite, a certain amount of time, as for debt repayment.
B. A quick and lively Hungarian dance.
C. A small rodent native to the highlands of Scotland.
D. To put off until tomorrow, procrastinate. (A scandinavian version of "mañana")
E. A joint or limb; a part formed by growth, and articulated to, or symmetrical with, other parts. From Dutch vuist.
F. Rubbing the hands together.
G. Typically seen in liquor decanters or chemical reagent storage containers, "frist" describes the ground-glass surface where the stopper is in contact with the neck of a glass jar, enabling it to seat snugly.
H. Term used in a gambling card game of German origin. Calling ‘frist’ during another player’s turn means that you will buy the next card to turn up and pay double for it when your turn comes. In this way you have the advantage of improving your hand ahead of time.
I. Type of rock associated with fossils of first flowering plants. (After Frist, Shetland, where first found)
J. The sand to gravel sized bits of colored glass which are used to color or decorate glass before it is blown. This is done by gathering a blob of molten glass on the end of the blowpipe and then rolling it in the frist. The whole is then reheated to melt it together.
K. To try to block or stall a bill from being passed. "The senator is using a filibuster to frist this issue." Named for Senator Bill Frist.
edit: names in lights (in alphabetical order, not in order of appearance)
submissions from: Bingley, Coffeebean, consuelo, dxb, Faldage, Rhubarb Commando, Tross, wofa, Wordwind, wsieber, Zed.

Hey, you! Bean! The Coffee One! You didn't put the submitters' names up--and we like to see our names in lights. That is one odd collection of definitions this time--all over the map. I'm tempted by J, but wonder why 'gravel sized' wasn't hyphenated: gravel-sized. Maybe the hyphen was omitted. I also like K, but I don't know much about politics. E and F are strangely connected... as are I and J. Countries in abundance: Hungary, Scotland (and Scotland again by way of the Shetlands), the whole of Scandanavia, Holland, Germany, and the USA by way of a politician. Eeney, meeny, miney, mo... I'll g with G because I like likker.

Nope, et'. The last three Hogwashes, at least, show the submitters' names from the get-go. Even the Great and Powerful tsuwm put the submitters' names up in the "Lant" Hogwash...an probably others, too, but I didn't check that far back.

I think what WW means (if I may...) is we'd like to see a list of those who submitted. Of course said names wouldn't be attached to their definitions until after the contest ended, silly eta.
I totally forgot to send one in. [sigh]
K I like.

I totally do not understand the point behind H. That is, I fail to see how it could give you any advantage. I'm tossed between G and J. I like the way E is worded but I don't care for it otherwise. My onliest problem with both G and J is that I *don't particularly like the way they're worded, but how do I know what caffeine head has done with the "real" definition?
So I'll go with A.

Perhaps we should re-name the game Nit-wash®??? Yoicks! Nice use of hyphens, eh? Yes, WW, I was pleased with the diversity of the submissions. Very creative folks you are. So much so that I've put your Names In Lights and coined an acronym for you all: NIL.

Nit-wash®
I just figger ifn yer gonna copy the "real" definition straight from a dictionary it should read like a dictionary definition is all.
Frist is where the horse goes out of the barn before the door burns down is not a dictionary definition. That's all I'm sayin'.

I presume that in the NIL context Coffeebean means Real Dictionary Definition (henceforth to be known as RDD)?

Well, I'm going for JAnd, Faldo, the reason for your existension dilemma of indecision here is obviously due to the fact that I missed my second-ever Hogwashin' and left you without the usual irresistible deafynition. --WO'N Obvious

I'll take J too.
Are we all being seduced by the similarity to "fritted glass"? G and J both sound as if that's their common attraction. ("Common attraction" = the teaser before the main show, to entice us to go see that other movie next week?)

I really meant to enter a definition this time. I don't know that the hell happened. Couldn't possibly be procrastination, no, not me!
I vote for F.

Hmmm. (D) is so boring that it must be the correct answer - therefore I WILL NOT vote for that! The idea of the small rodent (C) is attractive, but not believable at all. I really like the sound of Senator Bill Frist (K) and I can see him rubbing his hands together (F) in glee at the success of his tactics.
But the most aesthetically pleasing image is the colo(u)red glass, so I'll vote for J

You know what might be fun? Guessing who submitted which answer. Or are there too many inherent complications involved in this that my on-first-coffee-of-the-morning brain has yet to run through?

Did you want points awarded? I gathered from earlier remarks that "we weren't doing it that way anymore."
[sigh] It's easy enough to calculate the points for this round.
Lemme know.......

Oh yes, I didn't mean to imply that the game was ending now....I know that not everyone has cast a vote.
I was just wonderin' about the points. And all that.

just to clarify some things (or not):
- the current practice seems to be to end the round when all the entrants have voted (as opposed to setting some arbitrary deadline, which we've also tried), or at least give them every opportunity to do so
- current practice also is to score the round, at least to the point of declaring a winner for same
- as to the tangential contest, I wouldn't have it going in the same thread, as it would have too much potential to sway/mask the ongoing vote (not that this doesn't already happen); i.e., the clutter factor
- and, finally (as an aside, really), it should be made clear that the hogmistress is eligible to draft her own bluff def'n, but she shouldn't fiddle the other entrants' other than to put them all in a common format (a real temptation sometimes!); nor should the hogmaster put the 'actual' def'n in his own words, as this could be viewed as an attempt to negatively influence voting for said actual [in other words, cite your source]
- postfinally, remember: we don' need no stinkin' roolz (until people start analysizing® the results).

A question: Are we on our honor not to check dictionaries for the word in question? I didn't submit a definition, because I found frist in several places in OneLook. Curiosity done me in.

back when points were been kept religiously, and the title of Hogmaster was coveted, I think it would have been bad form to go to the books; however, the play and mis-direction to accumulate points probably encouraged many to consult their sources. now, who cares, as long as you don't spill the beans...

Kin I say it now? Remember, I was seriously considering this one, but:
J. The sand to gravel sized bits of colored glass which are used to color or decorate glass
OK, I can see the decorate part, but using colored glass to *color glass?
