This word is from the spellingbee list. Search turned it up in M-W, but only as "an associated word" in thesaurus for "subordinate". But search in M-W for definition got error message "not in the dictionary". The roots make it seem to mean "of equal force". Tsuwm, care to take a shot at it?

Greek parergon (para + ergon)= beside the main subject, subordinate, incidental. See: http://makeashorterlink.com/?U56E313D4Bingley

Thanks, Bingley. I goofed and thought only of Latin "par-" meaning equal.
