This word is from the spellingbee list. Search turned it up in M-W, but only as "an associated word" in thesaurus for
"subordinate". But search in M-W for definition got error message "not in the dictionary".
The roots make it seem to mean "of equal force".
Tsuwm, care to take a shot at it?

Greek parergon (para + ergon)= beside the main subject, subordinate, incidental.

meaning equal.
