This poem is by the second century Han poet, Liu Cheng.
It provides such a direct link between there and then and here and now;
such unlooked for recognition took me aback.

"Office work, a wearisome jumble;
ink drafts, a crosshatch of deletions and smears;
racing the writing brush, no time to eat;
sun slanting down but never a break;
swamped and muddled in records and reports;
head spinning till it's senseless and numb.
I leave off and go west of the wall,
climb the height and let my eyes roam:
square embankments hold back the clear water,
wild ducks and geese at rest in the middle –
where can I get a pair of whirring wings
so I can join you to bob on the waves?"

Do you like it?

At least he didn't have to contend with Spam, viruses, and porn.
And I'm sure he would not have been happy long "West of the Wall".

A wearisome jumble of
first drafts, a crosshatch of backspacing and swears;
racing the keyboard

Sounds accurate otherwise.

Well, don't be so sure about porn, Dr. Bill...do you think all those brush strokes were for business purposes?

It describes the admin 60% of my work to a tee, dxb.

Thank goodness I do have the wings to take me West of the Wall when I teach.

thank goodness I have wings ... when I teach
I still remember those teachers who felt that way about teaching. They inspired all sorts of dreams and aspirations. Since I can't thank them
Thank you
