Has it come to this? Our friend Faldage reduced to plagiarizing our good friend Wofahulicodoc for the faint prestige of conducting a hot game of Hogwash. No wonder I can't score; I am a honest person.

A little more charity, Sir. There's nothing about Damascus steel or carbon nanotubules in the old post. Indeed you should . Be not so huffy; it ill becomes you.

Let us not overlook another correct definition, per NI2: WOOTZ is OOLLY. three things about this: 1. in NI2 (Merriam-Webster's New International Dictionary, Second Edition) oolly appears after the word oological and before oologist, not quite in alphabetical order b. the word was dropped from W3 (as pointed out by wofa in the oolly thread), thereby alleviating this problem Þ. WNTC (the poor-man's unabridged) defined oolly (properly collocated with oolitic and oological) thusly: a small mass of steel just taken from the crucible: applied especially to wootz steel [Ind.] so, oolly is a subset, or precursor, of wootz? - joe (these things matter) friday

Good question. OED (B&M) lists it only as a variant of uly(e) which it lists as a Scottish variant of oil.
