I'm sure a lot of you may have noticed that many notable as well as obscure names for angels seem to end in -el. Is there a reason for this, perhaps something in the etymology or is that just how they are? Thanks.

Yes, because a common Semitic root for 'god, deity' is Hebrew 'el, Babylonian 'ilu, Arabic 'ilāh (whence 'allāh).

Not just angels: Daniel, Samuel, ELizabeth, Rachel, Nathaniel,
ELkanah, Bethel, Joel, ELijah,etc.

That's pretty funny, olly, but that's a different language and a different root. It's Germanic. Elmo means 'helmet'.
