The ipilipil is one of those rainforest plants which would be an excellent candidate to supply
biomass to be converted to fuel. To generate the equivalent of one million barrels of oil would
only require (at the maximum) a 12,000 hectare plantation, which is an area roughly only twice
the size of Manhattan. In addition to providing the biomass to be converted into fuel, the ipilipil
would provide an enormous amount of forage for livestock, a great amount of fertilizer, as well as a commercial thickener.
