Today in another thread, baroque was discussed, and rococo mentioned briefly. Baroque was massive, dark, and pnderous. Reaction, particularly in France led to rococo, which was ornate, but light and bright. Both fell out of favor with time.
rococo n. 5Fr < rocaille, rock work, shell work < roc < OFr roche, ROCK16 1 [occas. R3] a style of architecture, decorative art, music, etc. of the early 18th cent. developed from and in reaction to the Baroque and characterized by profuse and delicate ornamentation, reduced scale, lightness, grace, etc. 2 a style of architecture, music, etc. regarded, often disparagingly, as like this

Do you entertain dialogue, Dr Bill, or is this whole forum just a list?

Comments have been repeatedly invited. But the preference for chat over word posts is obvious.

Point taken, but maybe you're overwheming some of us, especially the newcomers. So I shall think up some responses to your word lists.

Dear AS: I gave the URLs where I got the words. We are supposed to be eager to learn new words. These words were all aimed at highschool kids. All of us have seen most of these words before, but because I found quite a few new to me, and ones I had forgotten, I thought it worth posting them, where members could go through them quickly and perhaps pick out ones they were interested in to comment on As I said, these were from the easy word list. I have a hundred and eighty pages (not close packed) of words thought to be less common. I didn't expect to post about as many from the easy list. I plan to post about four a day from the harder list. That should last me quite a while. It is very hard to guess which words will interest the members. At least my posting as you put it "below the fold" deprives no one. I do hope to generate more interest than has been shown so far.

So all these words are from a spelling list. I'm surprised to see 'rococo' among them! In any case, I still like Baroque, even if it has fallen from favor and however you pronounce it.

I love baroque, no matter how you pronounce itl. Baroque by any other name would sound as sweet. And as powerful. And as complicated. And as sweet again. UH, oh, wwh! I'm chatting on your word thread. Sorry.

Is it true that rococo architecture is baroque gone wild? Extremely ornamented? Jazzo?
