Southern blotting – a method of detection of specific stretches DNA. The method named after the author, Mr Southern, who printed an article describing the technique.
And a funny linguistic things had happened next. People decided that if we already have “South”, let’s have
Northern blotting - detection of RNA
Western blotting - detection of proteins
Unfortunately, nobody can think of something to be named “Eastern”
