Maybe there could be some interesting views on when to use "further" and when to use "farther".

Heh heh. Guilty I reckon. I confess, the distinction of when to use "farther" vs. "further" has always eluded my grasp. Can anyone come up with a pithy expression along the lines of "'I' before 'e' except after 'c'" to help me remember the proper use? And preferably, it should contain the words "Fuhrer," "farthing" and the phrase "for her." Or something to that effect...
