Another of tsuwm's wwftd: a faithful friend. I could not remember the classical source, so looked it up. Perhaps some members might also welcome having their recollection of the Aeneid refreshed.
Perhaps some one of the members might value the title of the dictionary described below, though it is not available online.
Achates. [Greek .] (Greek & Roman Mythology.) A companion and friend of Æneas. His fidelity was so exemplary that "fidus Achates." faithful Achates, became a proverb.
