FreeRice.com is a web-based vocabulary "game." They give you a word and four choices for the meaning. If you get it right, you get a harder word. For each word you get right, they donate 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program to help end hunger. Yesterday 195,609,880 grains of rice were donated. FreeRice.com has donated over 31 billion grains of rice since they began the program. It's a win-win-win-win thing. Check it out!

Hi, Steffani,

The free rice topic has passed here once before, last November.
(see Pennyless' thread). I still play it occasionally and notice that my average score improved, now always staying high in the fourties)For new people it 's still nice to play as well.

And they've moved the bar. It goes up to 60, now.

I still have reservations about the vocabulary building aspect.

For non native speakers it works anyway. They have changed another thing since november. When I make a mistake, after two new sets of words it puts in the mistaken word again. It helps. So there is a repetition factor added.

It goes up to 60, now. Aw, man! The times I've gotten to 50, I quit because it was the best I could do. Now I'll have to go on...and on...and on.

EDIT: "You have now donated 2520 grains of rice." I got up to 51...for one word. My mind is going.
