very recently, the meaning of philology vs. other ologies* (yes, that's an actual word) was brought up here.
so here's another, with a related question: it is fairly well established, although the word is not widely used, that nephology is the branch of meteorology that deals with clouds, or (as OED would have it) the scientific study of clouds.
so, what word would you use to describe the [in]activity of a person who lies on a hill letting their mind ponder the variety of shapes to found in the clouds? (other than wool-gathering : )
[I found a couple of beauts, also stemming from Gk nephos, in OED; but I'm looking for other suggestions. nephelognosy n. Obs. rare the systematic observation and description of cloud formations. nephelolater n. Obs. nonce-wd. a person who admires clouds. (hence, nephelolatry?)]
*ology - informal a branch of learning [AHD4]
