In medicine, we have a few (or maybe a lot of) pseudoeponyms. One of my favorites is the Coudé catheter. It's a real instrument. It has a bend in it. Some to many years back, some clever soul made up a reference to the inventor of the catheter, Emile Coudé. Pretty soon, millions of (okay, dozens of, maybe 3) references cited Dr. Coudé's seminal article. Eventually, someone (at least as pedantic as I) pointed out that the French word coudé derives from the word for elbow, which bends. No Dr. Coudé.
If anyone finds this concept interesting, I'll post another pseueponym.
