On a spree--(more commonly, at least in consumer oriented US, a spending spree.)

a PBS broadcast on cattle, claims the word is of scot's origin, and it means/meant a cattle raid.

i checked a few dictionaries (one-look top 5) and one suggested it was from old french for spirited..

so word mavins.. what do your resources say. is a spree a cattle raid? or unknown origin? or something else?

Or, almost as common, a shooting spree.

Aaauggh! senility, once an occational visiter, is becoming a regular companion!

i was knitting, and really just had the TV for background (i know, bad habit, but at least it was PBS)and wasn't impressed with any of the facts or stories. (i guess because i had seen them all before!) and spree was the only interesting detail

well that and how they said some town name.. Marlborough, i think.. and it was Mawl borough--
my ex sister in law once lived in Marlton NJ-that is MARL t-n--and the cigarettes are MARL too.. but r or non r isn't very interesting.
