Today's AWAD is "animus". Please scroll down.
No weekly theme this week. Or, is there?

Intro:

I thought it would be a good idea to create a companion thread to discuss Anu's daily AWAD dedicated to the fun of limericks.

We already have a limerick thread, so this thread will only be used by limerick lovers or adulterors who want to have some fun with Anu's AWAD, or his theme of the week, in limerick form.

Of course, this thread can be used by anyone for anything -- but you get the idea.

I'm calling this ALAD "Water of India", which is Anu's term for a diversion used by a magician to set the stage for his next act.

We can fool around here with limericks as we wait full of anuticipation for tomorrow's AWAD. :)

"The water of India!", we all heard him shout
As he emptied a pitcher by tipping its spout
"Don't look at the stage,
Look at me!", cried the mage,
"'Cause the water of India will never run out!"

The AWAD for Day 1 is "odium".

Some passing moods make us furious;
Still others take a turn far more serious.
When filled with such hate
You need to sedate
You are suffering from odium delirious.

"Sparing the rod means spoiling the child"
On such wisdom all history has smiled
But when we look back
On a parental smack
With wisdom presentism, we're riled.

Pabst Blue Ribbon Variation for themilum [Jan. 18]:

Judging folks of a long ago day
By the standards and mores of today
Is presentism
Opportunitism
Defaming people who have all passed away.

Some folks just never feel fine.
When you ask "How're ya doing?", they decline
To say "I feel good"
Like other folks would.
"I can't say 'I feel good'", they repine.

Dear Plutarch, as you know I hold your poetic works to a higher standard than the other poeters and poettes of this board. To them I award an imaginary Pabst Blue Ribbon for excellence, to you I award a real one and drink it in your honor.

Salute! I sit down an empty glass for your poem honoring "repine".

It's that rootin' toot tootin' snootful we had with snoot [Touting my own Toot] paying dividends already:

"And themilum will judgem magnum cum laudem." :)

Today's AWAD is "diriment".

I lost a whole evening in merriment,
You could call it a daring experiment,
To see if Pabst stout
Would bring my muse out
Or depress it in day-after diriment.

Here's a little verse along the same lines.

"Wine and women, mirth and laughter
Sermons and soda water the day after."

Poet's after-thought: Who knows what poetic heights I might have reached with diriment if Anu had released his AWAD 2 or 3 hours earlier. :)

"Polish" applied to L1 at the suggestion of AnimiaL. Thanks, AnimiaL.

Great limerick.
First line needs a bit of polish metrically, though.
"I lost a whole evening in merriment" sounds a bit better to my ear.

Animus is an odium state of mind
Wishing someone a diriment unkind.
A presentism hack
Is always looking back
To repine on old sins left behind.

* Revised in response to valued criticism from AnimiaL. Thx. A-L.

Going for the bicycle, AnimiaL. :)
Thanks for the "polish" on "diriment". Good one.
[I hope themilum is watching. I'm hoping to get the good bottle to finish the week. But if he has to award too many more bottles this week, it might finish him off for good.]

AnimiaL has advised quite correctly and discreetly that my limerick is stretching the meter rules in Lines 1, 2 and 5.
Hey, he's got me there.* [So I'll go back and see if I can fix it. I'm tryin' to score my first bicycle with themilum. :) ]

Just in case themilum doesn't like my bike, I offer this Pabst Blue Ribbon variation for "animus":

Animus animus animus
Why must there be so much animus!
Animus is great
If you're just into hate
But we could use more animus intellimus.
