Shouldn't it be "Anagram Coffee Break", or some other paean to Coffeebean?

(alternative title : "O, no!")

Sometimes a noun can be contrived made from an adjective.

Guns can be aimed through a gunsight, but not all guns have them. I have some of each kind. The ones without are not very useful. Please throw out all the UNSIGHTEDS.

even though it's obvious - drop the S

UNSIGHTED

and let's proceed from here.

Challenge: find a next word that starts with an A. Nine letters, two syllables.

Oh no! I'm ruined! I need MORE letters, not fewer, and I needed all those I already had (and not a Y...). Can anyone help fix it?

I can take us from here to Rudolf in five steps (stopping off at Facebook along the way for a neologism) but there ought to be a more efficient route. Anyone?

Aramis, good to see you pass by in capitals. Referendi is a perfect word, though one letter past the word reindeer, which was twosleepy's quest. Well, reindeer is marked and referendi prefollows the word. smile

Can we go from REINDEER to DASHER to DANCER to ... and DONDER and BLITZEN and maybe even to RUDOLF?

And can we do it all before ten more days has elapsed?

I'll give a head start:

REINDEER
drop R to make NEEDIER
drop E DENIER
E --> A RAINED
N --> S RAISED
I --> H DASHER

As stated, it's taking up the way friend is used on FaceBook (anyone who wants to friend me, or be friended, just PM me and we can go from there. I already have 2 WS friends on FB...) as a verb. If there is objection to that, you can use INFERRED instead, which has the same letters. Anyhoo, Aramis is fine to jump in. All I have to do is:

REFERENDI

-F

REINDEER

Voila! :0)

I've never eaten one, but I would!

(though we could have done it more directly with DASHER --> HARDEN --> DANCER)

in the titles to each post, e.g. looking three posts up, post
188412.

Sorry for my error I missed the post. Donner is the german for thunder. I guess the donder is from the dutch roots of upstate New York from where the author is from. Since this is in the public domain there are slight variations among printings.

No big deal, but did we skip Donder, or consider him covered
in the mixup??

I think he was covered in my mix up.

And now the ultmate challenge:

Can we get to Rudolph before tomorrow night?

BLITZEN

add S to fortify ourselves before we start

BLINTZES

(should give more opportunities than drop-E-for-BLINTZ)

Merry Christmas to you all from
me and Donder. Rudolf has a light, he'll find the way.

And here comes Rudolph, if the long way 'round:

BLITZEN (didn't get anywhere with the blintzes except a full stomach)
BLITZER
BLITHER (what a blithering idiot does)
BLATHER
BATHER
EARTH
RATE
EAT
AT
A
AN
AND
END
PEND
DUPE
PULED
PULLED
UPHELD
UPHOLD
RUDOLPH

Not terribly efficient, and a sort of reductio-ad-absurdum technique. Within broad limitations, it could be used to make just about anything out of anything else.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good day!

Now that Rudolph found his way
and now that this is the first day of Christmas,
we could take Rudolph and make a Partridge in a Pear Tree
out of his name
(probably according to your way wofa..)
and proceed thru the Twelve Days of Christmas.

WHATEVER; MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

HIPHOPS to BISHOPS is a forbidden transition - two changes at once.

SCORES

...which would bring us back to COURSES, if we're not mindful.

But as long as we're studying SCORES (we rehearsed Brahms' Deutches Requiem this evening!) , let's go from Oh to Ah and

CARESS the music. It truly deserves it.

Many would consider it so. It's extremely lyrical, not a standard Requiem Mass at all, being set instead to German texts that Brahms found moving, but is often sung in English translation. He had most of it sketched out and then finally completed it after the death of his mother. You can hear most if not all of the sections on YouTube.

Why not sit down with a glass of CLARET some time and listen to it?

Thanks so much for the YouTube site: I am thoroughly enjoying the Requiem again, for the third time.
