This General Topic gets so little use, and its meaning is so unclear, that I respectfully suggest it be dropped

Otherwise thanks for Wordsmith, long may you toil

the over-arching category containing Weekly Themes is called General Topics.

What else would you like us to say? You've made your suggestion.

Anna: Well, you could give me some support, or you could disagree; or you could contribute a helpful idea; eg, discuss the philosophy behind the Weekly Theme; or suggest a definition for this heading, listing a few typical examples; etc etc etc

ok, this is the fifth time I've been drawn here by the <new posts> flag only to look at the same thread, so I'm gonna add this real new post to see if it stops the hissy fit!

after you've done that, do you have to then click on "mark all posts as read"?

(I'm not trying to be a wizeguy -- clicking on "mark all read" takes me to a new screen which has a "mark all posts as read" link. so who's the wizeguy?!)

there seems to be something about this thread that makes it continually evidence the "feature".

Oh, OK. "Weekly Themes" used to have a new forum each week, back when subscribership was small. Wordsmith has left the individual ones up from a long time ago, and sometimes they still are used. He's a busy guy; this is not his first priority. You asked: I think things are pretty good the way they are, so kvit your kvetching.

But getting back to to words and language....

RE: My thrust to improve things is often misinterpreted as criticism by those so inclined

Oh most definately! how can you think to improve perfection?

is AWAD perfect? yes, like a truly loved spouse is perfect.

Yes, it has what could be considered (by unknowing people) annoying attributes, but we have come to see them for what they are, part of a total package that is loved as it is!

We love AWAD, just the way it is. (and stick around, we'll come to love you too, the same way!)

Helen: I wouldn't say "perfection," but AWAD is easier to use than some sites of this sort. For instance, I find Phrase Finder to be extraordinarily difficult

Edited to apologize for the alliteration
