From Ellis Peters's "Saint Peter's Fair" (page 12):

For three days, the three busiest of the year, when we might do well out of tolls on carts and pack-horses and man-loads passing through the town to reach the fair, we must levy no charges, neither murage nor pavage.

Murage -- a tax for repair of the town walls
Pavage -- a tax for paving of streets

That's appropriate enough, mur being French for wall.

demurrage
n.
5OFr demorage, a delay < demorer: see DEMUR6
1 the compensation payable to a carrier of freight whose vehicle or vessel is delayed, as by failure to load or unload the freight within the time allowed
2 the delay itself

gavage
n.
5Fr < gaver, to stuff: see GAVOTT
Also using stomach tube to remove ingested poison, putting in water and removing it repeatedly

And then just plain
lavage
n.
5Fr < laver < L lavare, to wash: see LAVE16 Med. the washing out of an organ, as the stomach, intestinal tract, or sinuses
Which reminds me of the newly wed young lady of fifty years ago, who said that between dishes
and douches, she was in hot water all the time. And the proposed Lysol theme song," the Love Bug
Will Get you If You Don't Wash Out."
