MEASURING
sorry, but accepted by some:
https://www.thefreedictionary.com/aneurism
I would have said “reported by” or “used by“ rather than “accepted by”. It’s the way no less an authority than Webster’s Third International asserted that “uninterested“ was the equivalent of “disinterested“ - and that was in 1961. I disagree. Even if - and maybe especially if - you know exactly which one I meant.
(Obviously I’m a prescriptivist.)
Etymonline calls
aneurism "the less correct, but more popular, spelling":
https://www.etymonline.com/word/aneurism
My head hurts, I think I'm getting one,
Hmmm. Searching for "aneurysm" gets about 1.8 million Google-hits, and "aneurism" gets 2,4 million Ghits, and you even have to insist on the search for -ism or it goes to -ysm by default. So it's used with that spelling, but I wouldn't call it "more popular." Not that any of it matters for our purposes, really.

(although "dachshund" is "roof dog" auf Deutsch, so strictly speaking it should be an "overdog" if anything!)
"Dachshund" is "badger dog", actually.
Ah. I thought it was from "Dach" = roof + Hund. = dog. Everything I've been able to locate agrees with the Dachs = badger parsing. Very appealing scenario, though, that they were bred like that to keep vermin off the thatched roofs in the Middle Ages. Another Urban Legend that sounds plausible but isn't so.
