OP In the Rudyard Kipling short story "The Little Foxes", the action takes place close to a River Gihon in Abyssinia.
I remembered the name of the Spring Gihon, mentioned in Chronicles,in the Bible. About 700 BC, Kind Hezekiah, when Assyrians under Sennacherib were threatening to attack Jerusamem, had the waters of the spring diverted to a
tunnel bringing the water beneath the city wall to a
well inside the wall, and the outside covered to prevent
Assyrians from having drinking water needed for a siege.

There are Jews in Ethiopia. I wonder if they brought the
name "Gihon" with them.
