I won't use the word "peeve" (oops!) because that peeves (whoops!) off some folks.

But here we are: I am totally annoyed at newscasters' pronunciation of 'schedule' as if it had three syllables, to wit: sked-ju-al. This of course does not apply to cross-ponders, at least those of the Brit persuasion. What about the rest of y'all? Have you heard this? Does it bother you?
Any other disgruntlements of late?
'nu-cu-lar' doesn't count (we've been there and done that)

has two syllables, whether it's written or spoken: Shed-yule. Just kidding. Sked-joule.

sked-ju-al

This is close to the second of three AHD approved pronunciations.

Personally I don't like pet peevers who pronounce "Schedule" with airs and leave out the "C".

It is pronounced (SCHEGE uaal).

And "poem" is pronounced (PO em) not (POME), which sounds redneck.

AnnaS:

Let's not discuss schedules, ok, next time we talk in the real world. The way I pronounce it would send shivers up your spine. Try as I may, mine ends up being 3-syllables. Cut me some slack, and we could say it's a diphthong thang.

Gruntle is an intransitive verb.

Yes, my grammar in that last post was quite dishevelled but I think this post makes up for it with its hevelment.

"Jeez. With all of this disgruntlement about I wonder if any of you are ever gruntled."

But wouldn't you be appointed if they were?

Well, the fact that we've been misspelling it for the last few hundred years…
