Called "coloboma". There used to be an eye operation that produced such an effect.For glaucoma, I think. I once knew a girl who had been born with a coloboma, and cruel kids called her "Cat-eye". I remember it because I brought up the word. But a search in the AWAD archives doesn't bring up a thing. Chatoyance is also a visual effect of some wood grains, particularly mahogany. I ran across the word in connection with my woodworking hobby about 18 months ago and we talked about it here.
