In looking up "Chrysoberyls" noticed a type possessing "chatoyancy" = resembling cat's eye.
Beware of seductive females characterised by "chatoyancy".

Beware of seductive females - Easier said than done: In most cases you only perceive the seductiveness after having been seduced.
By the way, chatoyant is a rather usual word in French.

So those things we have down the middle of the road in the UK could be said to be chatoyant. Must remember that, bound to be useful sometime.

There is a rather uncommon defect of the iris of the eye, in which a portion is absent,
causing pupil to somewhat resemble pupil of cat's eye. Called "coloboma". There used
to be an eye operation that produced such an effect. For glaucoma, I think. I once knew
a girl who had been born with a coloboma, and cruel kids called her "Cat-eye".

We've talked about this before. I remember it because I brought up the word. But a search in the AWAD archives doesn't bring up a thing.

Chatoyance is also a visual effect of some wood grains, particularly mahogany. I ran across the word in connection with my woodworking hobby about 18 months ago and we talked about it here.
