Edna Purviance (what a fascinating surname!) played the missionary; Paulette Goddard didn't work with Chaplin until Modern Times in 1935. Our film society had a double bill of Chaplin (The kid plus Modern Times) a couple of months ago. A wonderful evening of fun and nostalgia.
