I have wondered how "eutrophic" came to mean an excess of nutrients. I was reminded
of it by article in DISCOVER about fish farms along east coast of Gulf of California.

Can you think of any other words with "eu" prefix that mean not something good, but excess?

PS Not counting the Eumenides, the euphemism for the Furies!

Or eunuch!

Or euphuism.

Up here in the antipodes many would say that selling to Europe involves an excess of bureaucratic strings.

Well, to me, euphoria denotes something way beyond mere happiness...

And eugenics? That's pretty excessive if you ask me.

Don't think I've ever known a eulogy that wasn't excessive.

In fact, "excess of words" would be quite a good definition of eulogy.

In antiquity, the Greek sea was known as "pontus euxenus", i.e. hospitable sea, much along the lines of "Pacific Ocean".
