Wordwind ended thread 4 with this. Surely a record number of posts! My hat is off to Spartey, for coming up with so much fun!

Nicole: Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs
Ewan: Well, what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, Cause, here I go again! Love lifts us up where we belong, Where eagles fly on a mountain high
Nicole: Love makes us act like we are fools, Throw our lives away, For one happy day
Ewan: We could be heroes, Just for one day
Nicole: You, you will be mean
Ewan: No, I won't
Nicole: And I... I'll drink all the time
Ewan: We should be lovers
Nicole: We can't do that
Ewan: We should be lovers, And that's a fact
Nicole: No, nothing will keep us together
Ewan: We could steal time, Just for one day
Both: We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes
Ewan: Just because I will always love you
Nicole: I can't help loving you... How wonderful life is
Both: Now, you're in the world
Placido Domingo: La forza dell'amor (the power/force of Love)

ELEPHANT LOVE MEDLEY - performed by Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge -- have no idea who wrote all these lyrics from different songs!

Morning has broken, like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird.
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the word.

Morning Has Broken, Cat Stevens

Bye Bye Blackbird

Pick up all my care and woe
here i go singin' low
bye bye blackbird

Where somebody waits for me
sugar's sweet , so is he
bye bye blackbird

No one here can love or understand me
or what hard luck stories they all hand me

Make my bed and light the light
i'll arrive late tonight
blackbird, bye bye

Make my bed and light the light
i'll arrive late tonight
blackbird, bye bye

But who originally wrote it? Beats me!

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

"Blackbird"
~~The Beatles

And as for "Bye Bye Blackbird" I found this:
"1926 song written by Ray Henderson (melody) and Mort Dixon (lyrics)". Hope this answers that question DubDub!

Great! I get out of bed Sunday morning only to find that Wordwind and WO'N have cluckcolded my favorite bird - the blackbird. I follow them around in the winter and fall trying to understand their collective habits.
Darn, if I think and think, and try to come up with another Blackbird song, one of you songsters will enter the theater via the side door.
O' well, I could just go back to bed...

But I won't... - -

Wake up. Wake up you sleepy head.
Get up. Get up out of bed
Look up. Look up the sun is red
Live. Love. Laugh and be happy!

When the red red robin comes bob bob bobing along,
There'll be no more sobbin' when he starts singing
That old, sweet song.
I'm just a kid again, doing things I did again,
Singing this song -
When the red red robin starts bob bob bobing along.

Recorded by many
But who originally wrote it? Beats me!

I will Post edit the composer later. You do understand that it is a matter of expediency that I do so.
- -

Post edit: Why Angel, why me? Can't you go over and out-scoup somebody in "Poems"? AhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHH!!

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

"A Song For You"
~~The Carpenters

Milum, dear, I beat you by almost 9 minutes! And FYI "When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along" was written by Harry Woods. Luv ya hon! [kiss-e]

There are places I'll remember
all my life, though some have changed
some forever, not for better
some have gone and some remain
with lovers and friends I still can recall
some are dead and some are living
in my life I loved them all
But of all those friends and lovers
there is no one compared with you
and these memories lose their meaning
when I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
for people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
in my life I'll love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
for people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
in my life I'll love you more
In my life I'll love you more

Another blackbird song for milum:

Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye.
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing.
Wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the kind?

The king was in the counting house
Counting out his money.
The queen was in the parlor
Eating bread and honey.
The maid was in the garden
Hanging out the clothes.
Along came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose!

A good bit of me keeps to the sky
On the back of a cloud
Unaware of how high
If I stay where I lay
I might drift away soon
From the pull of the sun
I am full of the moon
But baby your the one who grounds me
When the sounds of this world surround me
Your love it took a look and found me
Lost and on my own

Sister moon will be my guide
In your blue blue shadows I would hide
All good people asleep tonight
I'm all by myself in your silver light
I would gaze at your face the whole night through
I'd go out of my mind, but for you.

Hey Miss Sun
What could I say
I tried to hold you
But the moon got in the way
It won't be long before the morning has you back in my arms

Place: Park; Scene: Dark,
Silv'ry moon is shining thro'
the trees:
Cast: Two; Me, You.
Sound of kisses floating on
the breeze...
Act One, Begun,
Dialogue: "Where would you like to spoon?"
My cue, with you, underneath the silv'ry moon.

By the light of the silvery moon,
I want to spoon, to my honey I'll croon love's tune
Honeymoon keep a-shining in June,
Your silv'ry beams will bring love dreams
We'll be cuddling soon,
By the silvery moon!

Thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say .. Women ... they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean .. you'll know

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain,
Telling me just what a fool I've been.
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain,
And let me be alone again.

Now the only girl I've ever loved has gone away.
Looking for a brand new start!
But little does she know that when she left that day.
Along with her she took my heart.

Rain, please tell me, now does that seem fair
For her to steal my heart away when she don't care
I can't love another, when my heart's somewhere far away.

Rain, won't you tell her that I love her so
Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow
Rain in her heart and let the love we know start to grow.

Here comes the sun, here comes thesun,
And I say it's all right
Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Time,
Time,
Time, see what's become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities.

I was so hard to please.
Look around,
Leaves are brown,
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

Sending this one out to our good friend, Jackie

You've Got A Friend
Carole King

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
and you know whereever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
and soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

StormyWeather
Lyrics by: Ted Koehler (Theodore K.)
Music by: Harold Arlen (b. Hyman Arluck)

From the Show: Cotton Club Parade 1933 (S)

Lyrics:

Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my gal and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time

Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather
Just can't get my poor old self together
I'm weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time

When she went away, the blues walked in and they met me
If she stays away, that old rockin' chair's gonna get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can't go on, everything I had is gone
Stormy weather
Since my gal and I ain't together
Keeps rainin' all the time
Keeps rainin' all the time

Wherever we go, whatever we do,
we're gonna go through it together.
We may not go far, but sure as a star,
wherever we are, it's together.

Wherever I go I know he goes.
Wherever I go I know she goes.
No fits, no fights, no feuds
and no egos, Amigos, together!

Through thick and through thin,
all out or all in.
And whether it's win, place or show.
With you for me and me for you,
we'll muddle through whatever we do.
Together, wherever we go.

Together, Wherever We Go from "Gypsy"
Jule Stein and Stephen Sondheim

Side By Side
Well we ain't got a barrel of money...
We may look ragged and funny...
But we're travelin' on...
Singing our song...
Side by side.

Through all kinds of weather...
What if the sky should fall?
As long as we're together,
It doesn't matter at all.
So we ain't got a barrel of money...
We may look ragged and funny...
But we're travelin' on...
Singing our song...
Side by side.

Through all kinds of weather...
Drought, flood, rain and snow,
We will be together...
So it just don't matter at all...

Oh we ain't got a barrel of money...
We may look ragged and funny...
But we're travelin' on...
Singing our song...
Side by side.

Don't know what's comin' tomorrow...
maybe it's trouble and sorrow...
but we'll travel the road...
sharin' our load...
side by side.

Oh we ain't got a barrel of money...
We may look ragged and funny...
But we're travelin' on...
Singing our song...
Side by side.

When they've all had their quarrels and parted...
we'll be the same as we started...
just travlin' along singin' a song...
side by side.

Stephen Sondheim
Side by Side

Edit: Slithy sent me a correction and said it would be ok to paste it here. So here's what Slithy wrote :

Thanks for posting the lyric(s) to Side by Side. I notice you attributed the song to Stephen Sondheim. As it happens, it was published in 1927, three years before SS was born, and was written by someone named Harry Woods. I used to listen to Kay Starr's version--wonderful, especially the part where she sang it as a duet with herself. It's easy to think this might be one of Sondheim's, since he did write a song called Side by Side by Side, and a bunch of his songs were put together in a revue called Side by Side by Sondheim.

Thanks, Slithy!

Girl, I've been watching you
From so far across the floor now baby
That's nothing new
I've watched you so many times before now baby
I see that look in your eyes
And what it's telling me
And you know girl that I'm not shy
I'm glad you picked up on my telepathy now baby

You read my mind
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven

Oh, I've been missing you
And the way you make me feel inside
What can I do?
I can tell you got your pride now baby
Come to me, well, well
Let me ease your mind, oh baby
I got the remedy, yes I do
Now give me just a little time

You read my mind
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven

Girl, I've been missing you
And you know it's funny
Every time I get to feeling this way
I wish I had you near me, i
I wanna reach out and touch you

I can't stop thinking of the things we do
The way you call me, baby, when I'm holding you
I shake and I shiver when I know you're near
Then you whisper in my ear, oh baby, well, well

You read my mind, you know you did
Girl I wanna shake you down
I could give you all the loving you need
Come on let me take you down
We'll go all the way to heaven
I love you then and I always will

(now I'm going by memory with this song. It is way old. I don't have a pick-up anymore and all I have left is a thick 45rpm record)

Daddy dear, daddy dear
Is the world really round?
Tell me where
is the bluebird of happiness found?
If you look up above
Is the sky really blue?
And when you were a child
did you cry like I do?

Little child, little child
Yes the world's really round.
And the bluebird of happiness will surely be found.
If you look up above
Yes the sky's really blue
And when I was a child
I would cry like you do.

- Little Child - Danny Kaye and Dena Kaye

I'll try to find a record player and correct the misremembered parts.

I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill
Oh Blueberry Hill when I found you

The moon stood still on Blueberry Hill
And lingered until my dreams came true

*Tho' wind in the willow played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows you made
Were never to be
Tho' we're apart, you're part of me still
For you were my thrill on Blueberry Hill

(Repeat *)

pop, pop, pop, pop

You make my heart go giddy-up
pop, pop, pop, pop

You are as sweet as candy
You're my sugar dandy

The Candy Man
Sammy Davis Jr.

Who can take a sunrise
Sprinkle it with dew
Cover it in chocolate
And a miracle or two

The candy man
The candy man can
The candy man can because he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow
Wrap it in a sigh
Soak it in the sun
And make a strawberry lemon pie

The candy man
The candy man can
The candy man can because he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good

Who can turn the world on with her smile
Who can take a nothing day
And suddenly make it all seem worthwhile

Well it’s you girl and you should know it
With each glance
and every little movement you show it

Love is all around no need to waste it
You can never tell why don’t you take it

You’re gonna make it after all
You’re gonna make it after all

We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it
We're not gonna take it

We're not gonna take it
Never did and never will
We're not gonna take it
Gonna break it, gonna shake it,
Let's forget it better still

Hmm, being new here I may well have got the rules (amorphous as they appear) wrong, but I couldn't help thinking of this obscure little 80s tune...

Tay, tay, tay, tay - t-t-t-t-tay tay (or whatever)
Take or leave it
Somebody please believe us
We are never gonna be respectable...
Life may change
But you'll never change us
We are never gonna be respectable

sung by Mel and Kim, not sure if anyone would want to claim the dubious honour of composer!

Who are you
Hu hu hu hu

There's a place where I know you walked
The love falls from the trees
My heart is like a broken cup
I only feel right on my knees
I spill out like a sewer hole
Yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone new
After such a love as this

Who are you

Who are you

Time In A Bottle
Words and Music by Jim Croce
Copyright © 1975 Jim Croce, Atlantic Records.

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Till Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

The Great Pretender

Oh yes I'm the great pretender (ooh ooh)
Pretending I'm doing well (ooh ooh)
My need is such I pretend too much
I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh yes I'm the great pretender (ooh ooh)
Adrift in a world of my own (ooh ooh)
I play the game but to my real shame
You've left me to dream all alone

Too real is this feeling of make believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Ooh Ooh yes I'm the great pretender (ooh ooh)
Just laughing and gay like a clown (ooh ooh)
I seem to be what I'm not (you see)
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're still around

Yeah ooh hoo
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Oh yes I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown (ooh ooh)
I seem to be what I'm not you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown

People see us everywhere
They think you really care
But myself I can't deceive
I know it's only make believe

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now
Oh, you're a hard one
I know that you got your reasons
These things that are pleasin' you
Can hurt you somehow

The night was splendid
And the melody seemed to say
"Summer will pass away
Take your happiness while you may"

There 'neath the light of the moon
We sang a love song that ended too soon

The moon descended
And I found with the break of dawn
You and the song had gone
But the melody lingers on

-- The Song Is Ended (but the Melody Lingers On)

Pretend you're happy when you're blue
It isn't very hard to do
And you'll find happiness without an end
Whenever you pretend

Happiness is,
happiness is,
happiness is
Different things to different people
That's WHAT HAPPINESS IS

To a preacher, it's a prayer, prayer, prayer
To the Beatles, it's a yeah, yeah, yeah
To a golfer, it's a hole in one
To a father, it's a brand new son

To a night owl, it's a good day's sleep
To the Yankees, it's a four-game sweep
To the birdies, it's the sky above
But to my mind, it's the one I love

And that's what Happiness is.

HAPPINESS IS FINDING A PENCIL.
PIZZA WITH SAUSAGE
TELLING THE TIME.
HAPPINESS IS LEARNING TO WHISTLE.
TYING YOUR SHOE FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

HAPPINESS IS PLAYING THE DRUM IN YOUR OWN SCHOOL BAND.
AND HAPPINESS IS WALKING HAND IN HAND.
HAPPINESS IS TWO KINDS OF ICE CREAM.
KNOWING A SECRET.
CLIMBING A TREE.
HAPPINESS IS FIVE DIFFERENT CRAYONS.
CATCHING A FIREFLY.
SETTING HIM FREE.

HAPPINESS IS BEING ALONE EVERY NOW AND THEN.
AND HAPPINESS IS COMING HOME AGAIN.
HAPPINESS IS MORNING AND EVENING,
DAY TIME AND NIGHT TIME TOO.
FOR HAPPINESS IS ANYONE AND ANYTHING AT ALL
THAT'S LOVED BY YOU.

HAPPINESS IS HAVING A SISTER.
SHARING A SANDWICH.
GETTING ALONG.
HAPPINESS IS SINGING TOGETHER WHEN DAY IS THROUGH,
AND HAPPINESS IS THOSE WHO SING WITH YOU.
HAPPINESS IS MORNING AND EVENING,
DAYTIME AND NIGHTTIME TOO.
FOR HAPPINESS IS ANYONE AND ANYTHING AT ALL
THAT'S LOVED BY YOU.

I'm going to find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each other's paint-by-number dreams
And then we'll put out dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again
Get it up again

Over hearts, I have painfully turned every stone
just to find, I had found what I've searched to discover.
I've come much too far for me now to find the love that I've sought can never be mine.

And though you don't believe that they do, they do come true,
for did my dreams come true when I looked at you.
And maybe too, if you would believe, you too might be overjoyed, over love, over me.

And though the odds say improbable, what do they know?
For in romance all true love needs is a chance.
And maybe with a chance you will find, you too, like I, overjoyed, over love, over you, over you.

"Overjoyed"
Stevie Wonder

I don't want you - to make my bed.
I don't want you - to cook my bread
I don't want you 'cause I'm sad and blue,
I just want to make love to you. Love to you.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE LOVE TO YOU - Muddy Waters
( excuse me these two songs kinda ran together. I'll match them with Love.)
I LIVE THE LIFE I LOVE AND I LOVE THE LIFE I LIVE - Muddy Waters

Now I may spend an hour or more in this town
One minute later I could be Highway bound.
Tomorrow night I could be over the hill
I just want you to know Baby - How I feel.

I see you watching me - like a hawk.
I don't mind 'yo - Baby Talk.
These girls move me - at their will.
But I live the life I love and I love the life I live.

BONUS SONG BONUS SONG BONUS SONG BONUS SONG BONUS SONG
( as atonement for my presumption above I offer...)

You're the top! You're a dance in Bali.
You're the top! You're a hot tamale.
You're an angel, you simply too, too, too diveen,
You're a Botticelli, You're Keats, You're Shelley,
You're Ovaltine.
You're a boon, You're the dam at Boulder,
You're the moon over Mae West's shoulder.
I'm a nominee of the G.O.P. or GOP,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

YOU'RE THE TOP - Cole Porter

The Name Game ...

Shirley!
Shirley, Shirley, Bo Birley
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Firley
Fee, Fy, Mo Mirley
Shirley

Len!
Len, Len, Bo Ben
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Fen
Fee, Fy, Mo Men
Len!

Come on everybody
I say now let's play a game
I betcha I could make a rhyme
Out of anybody's name

The first letter of the name
I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F
Or an M will appear

And then I say Bo, add a B
Then I say the name
Then Bonana, Fanna, and a Fo
Then I say the name again with an F very plain
Then a Fee, Fy, and a Mo
Then I say the name again with an M this time
And there isn't any name that I can't rhyme

Arnold!
Arnold, Arnold, Bo Barnold
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Farnold
Fee, Fy, Mo Marnold
Arnold

But if the first two letters are ever the same,
Drop them both then say the name
Like Bob, Bob, drop the B's Bo Ob
Or Fred, Fred, drop the F's Fo Red
Or Mary, Mary, drop the M's Mo Ary
That's the only rule that is contrary

Okay?
Now say Bo (Bo!)
Now Tony with a B (Bony!)
Then Bonana, Fanna, and Fo (Bonana Fanna Fo!)
Then you say the name again with an F very plain (Fony!)
Then a Fee, Fy, and a Mo (Fee Fy Mo)
Then you say the name again with an M this time (Mony!)
And there isn't any name that you can't rhyme

Everybody do Tony
Tony, Tony, Bo Bony
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Fony
Fee, Fy, Mo Mony
Tony

Pretty good. Let's do Billy
Billy, Billy, Bo Illy
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Filly
Fee, Fy, Mo Milly
Billy

Very good. Let's do Marsha
Marsha, Marsha, Bo Barsha
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Farsha
Fee, Fy, Mo Arsha
Marsha

A little trick with Nick
Nick, Nick, Bo Bick
Bonana, Fanna, Fo Fick
Fee, Fy, Mo Mick
Nick

I smell the blood of an Englishman
Be he alive or be he dead
I'll grind his bones to make my bread.

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone.
Owoooooooo!

Little Red Riding Hood
I'd like to hold you if I could
But you might think I'm a big bad wolf so I won't.
Owoooooooo!

What a big heart I have-the better to love you with.
Little Red Riding Hood
Even bad wolves can be good.
I'll try to be satisfied just to walk close by your side.
Maybe you'll see things my way before we get to grandma's place.

Hey there Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything that a big bad wolf could want.
Owoooooooo! I mean baaaaaa! Baaa?

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

When you're Strange - no one remembers you're name,
But Baby, I'm the bottom you're the top.

You're the top! You're the Colosseum,
You're the top! You're the Louvre Museum,
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss,
You're a Bendel bonnet, a Shakespeare sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.
You're the Nile, You're the Tow'r of Pisa,
You're the smile on the Mona Lisa.
I'm a worthless check, a total wreck, a flop,
But if, Baby, I'm the bottom,
You're the top!

Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa, man have named you
You're so like the lady with the mystic smile
Is it only 'cause you're lonely man have blamed you
For that Mona Lisa strangeness in your smile
Do you smile to tempt a lover Mona Lisa
Or is it your way to hide a broken heart

Many dreams have been brought to your doorstep
They just lie there and they die there
Are you warm, are you real Mona Lisa
Or just a cold and lonely lovely work of art

Elvis Presley, baby!

Are we really happy here
With this lonely game we play
Looking for words to say
Searching but not finding
understanding anywhere
We're lost in a masquerade

Both afraid to say we're just to far away
From being close together from the start
We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

This Masquerade, George Benson

Every time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong,
So I'll have to say I love you in a song.

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared

Words! Words! I'm so sick of words!
I get words all day through;
First from him, now from you! Is that all you blighters can do?
Don't talk of stars Burning above; If you're in love,
Show me! Tell me no dreams
Filled with desire. If you're on fire,
Show me! Here we are together in the middle of the night!
Don't talk of spring! Just hold me tight!
Anyone who's ever been in love'll tell you that
This is no time for a chat! Haven't your lips
Longed for my touch? Don't say how much,
Show me! Show me! Don't talk of love lasting through time.
Make me no undying vow. Show me now!
Sing me no song! Read me no rhyme!
Don't waste my time, Show me!

Doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo-doo
You could drive a person crazy,
You could drive a person mad.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
First you make a person hazy
So a person could be had.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
Then you leave a person dangling sadly
Outside your door,
Which it only makes a person gladly
Want you even more.

I can understand a person
If it's not a person's bag.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
I can understand a person
If a person was a fag.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
Boo-boo-boo-boo.
But worse than that,
A person that
Titillates a person then and leaves her flat
Is crazy,
He's a troubled person
He's a truly crazy person
Himself.

You crummy bastard! You sonofabitch!

When a person's personality is personable
He shouldn't oughta sit like a lump.
It's harder than a matador coercin' a bull
To try to get you offa your rump.

So single and attentive and attractive a man
Is everything a person could wish
But turning off a person is the act of a man
Who likes to pull the hooks out of fish.

Knock, knock, is anybody there?
Knock, knock, it really isn't fair,
Knock, knock, I'm working on my charms.
Knock, knock, a zombie's in my arms.

All that sweet affection,
What is wrong?
Where's the loose connection?
How long, oh Lord, how long?
Bobby, baby, Bobby, bubi, Bobby,

You could drive a person buggy,
You could blow a person's cool.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
Like you make a person feel all huggy
While you make her feel a fool.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
When a person says that you've upset her
That's when you're good.
You impersonate a person better
Than a zombie should.

I could understand a person
If he wasn't good in bed.
Doo-doo doo-doo doo.
I could understand a person
If he actually was dead.
Doo-doo doo-doo.
Exclusive you,
Elusive you,
Will any person ever get the juice of you?
You're crazy,
You're a lovely person,
You're a moving deeply maladjusted,
Never to be trusted
Crazy person
Yourself.

Bobby is my hobby, and I'm giving it up!

You Could Drive a Person Crazy

She's tall in the saddle - got a rose in her teeth
She's my hell incarnate - just walkin' down your street
You've seen the line on the glory from the heart of the flame
From the ... I don't know a story - but your song never change
Tell me why - oh, tell me why

I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood
I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood
I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood for a melody
I'm in the mood

I can make you dance - I can make you sing
I can make you dance - I can make you sing
If you want me to
I can make you dance - I can make you sing
I can make you dance - I can make you sing
If you want me to
I can make you dance - I can make you sing
I can make you dance - I can make you sing
If you want me to

Any little song that you want to sing
Little songs that you want to sing
Any song will do
Any little song that you want to sing
Little songs that you want to sing
It's up to you
Little songs that you want to sing
A little song that you want to sing
You're blue

I'm in the mood
I'm in the mood
I'm in the mood

I can write it on the door - I can put it on the floor
I can do anything that you want me for
If you want me to
I can do it right - I can do it wrong
'Cause a matter of fact it'll turn out to be strong
If you want me to

I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER
Burt Bacharach

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you
While combing my hair, now,
And wondering what dress to wear, now,
I say a little prayer for you

Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, forever, we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only be heartbreak for me.

I run for the bus, dear,
While riding I think of us, dear,
I say a little prayer for you.
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break-time,
I say a little prayer for you.

Forever, forever, you'll stay in my heart
and I will love you
Forever, forever we never will part
Oh, how I'll love you
Together, together, that's how it must be
To live without you
Would only be heartbreak for me.

My darling believe me,
For me there is no one
But you.

On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true -
So they sprinkled moondust in your hair
And golden starlight in your eyes of blue...

In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway American dream
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines
Sprung from cages out on highway 9,
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected
and steppin' out over the line
Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It's a death trap, it's a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we're young
`Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run

Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen "The Boss"

I was eight years old and running with a dime in my hand
Into the bus stop to pick up a paper for my old man
I'd sit on his lap in that big old Buick and steer as we drove through town
He'd tousle my hair and say son take a good look around this is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown
This is your hometown

In `65 tension was running high at my high school
There was a lot of fights between the black and white
There was nothing you could do
Two cars at a light on a Saturday night in the back seat there was a gun
Words were passed in a shotgun blast
Troubled times had come to my hometown
My hometown
My hometown
My hometown

Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores
Seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more
They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks
Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back to your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown
Your hometown

Last night me and Kate we laid in bed
talking about getting out
Packing up our bags maybe heading south
I'm thirty-five we got a boy of our own now
Last night I sat him up behind the wheel and said son take a good look around
This is your hometown

On one cloudless morning I stood on the mountain,
Just watching the smoke from below,
It was coming from a tall, slim smokestack
Way down on the Southern railroad.

It was 97, the fastest train
Ever ran the Southern line,
All the freight trains and passengers take the side for 97,
For she's bound to be at stations on time.

They gave him his orders at Monroe, Virginia,
Saying, "Stevie, you're way behind time.
This is not 38, but it's Old 97,
You must put her into Spencer on time."

He looked 'round and said to his black greasy fireman,
"Just shovel in a little more coal,
And when I cross that old White Oak Mountain
You can just watch Old 97 roll."

It's a mighty rough road from Lynchburg to Danville,
And the lie was a three-mile grade,
It was on that grade that he lost his air brakes,
And you see what a jump that she made.

He was going down the grade making 90 miles an hour,
When his whistle began to scream,
He was found in that wreck with his hand on the throttle,
He was scalded to death by the steam.

Did she ever pull in? No, she never pulled in,
And at 1:45 he was due,
For hours and hours has the switchman been waiting
For that fast mail that never pulled through.

Did she ever pull in? No, she never pulled in,
And that poor boy must be dead.
Oh, yonder he lays on the railroad track
With the cart wheels over his head.

97, she was the fastest train
That the South had ever seen,
But she run so fast on that Sunday morning
That the death score was numbered 14.

Now, ladies, you must take warning,
From this time now and on.
Never speak harsh words to your true loving husband.
He may leave you and never return.

"The Wreck of the Old 97" also produced the first major lawsuit involving copyright. In 1933 the courts ruled against the RCA Victor Company, stating that David G. George, a Pittsylvania telegraph operator who was at the accident scene, was the song's original author. George was awarded $65,000 on sales of five million records. RCA Victor appealed and tied up the case in court for so long that George never collected his award. In a technique common to the folksong tradition, George composed the ballad by adding new lyrics to the altered tune of an older song.

Well, I lay my head on the railroad track
Waitin' on the Double-E
But the train don't run by here no more
Poor, poor, pitiful me

This train is bound for glory, this train,
This train is bound for glory, this train,
This train is bound for glory,
Don't ride nothin' but the righteous an' the holy
This train is bound for glory, this train,

This train don't carry no gamblers, this train,
This train don't carry no gamblers, this train,
This train don't carry no gamblers
No hypocrites, no midnight ramblers,
This train is bound for glory, this train.

This train is built for speed now, this train,
This train is built for speed now, this train,
This train is built for speed
Fastest train you ever did see,
This train is bound for glory, this train.

This train don't carry no liars, this train,
This train don't carry no liars, this train,
This train don't carry no liars,
No hypocrites and no high flyers,
This train is bound for glory, this train.

This train don't pay no transportation, this train,
This train don't pay no transportation, this train,
This train don't pay no transportation
No Jim Crow and no discrimination,
This train is bound for glory, this train.

This train don't carry no rustlers, this train,
This train don't carry no rustlers, this train,
This train don't carry no rustlers
Sidestreet walkers, two-bit hustlers,
This train is bound for glory, this train.

Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Teacher hit me with a ruler.
I hit her in the bean with a rotten tangerine,
And ______________________________

(a line I can't remember...)

A song of young rebels in school, most often sung by students who are about 7, 8, or 9 years old

Well, look at jelly roll baker, now,
Let me be your slave,
Gabriel blows his trumpet,
I would rise from my grave,
F'r some good old jelly,
Yes, that good old jelly roll,
Well, it's good for the young,
Yes, an' it's good for the old.

The king is gone
but he's not forgotten
This is the story
of a Johnny Rotten
It's better to burn out
than it is to rust
The king is gone
but he's not forgotten.

Hey hey, my my
Rock and roll can never die
There's more to the picture
Than meets the eye.
Hey hey, my my.

Hey Hey, My My (Out of the Blue), Neil Young

(You beat me, Connie, while I was searching this...but I get more points because Rotten is a tougher match!)

He remembers the first time he met her
He remembers the first thing he said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed
He remembers her sweet way of sayin'
"Honey has something gone wrong?"
He remembers the fun and the teasin'
And the reason he wrote her this song.

hmmm, maybe this is interrupting the train of song here, a bit, but I have to tell you - I learnt the last lines as

"I hit her on the chin with a rotten mandarine
And her teeth came marching out!"

well, since alexis isn't following da rules either, i might as well jump in to say that the way we sang it was

Glory, glory hallelujah
Teacher hit me with a ruler
The ruler didn't break
So she hit me with a rake
and the blood came gushing out.

there, now, wasn't that a worthy contribution!

We've moved on six miles from where we were yesterday
And yesterday is but a long long ways away
So we'll camp out tonight beneath the bright starlight
And forget rotten peaches and the places we've stayed

Well the dawn was coming. Heard him ringing on my bell.
He said, "My name's a teacher, or that is what I call myself,
And I have a lesson that I must impart to you.
It's an old expression, but I must insist it's true:

Jump up, look around, find yourself some fun;
No sense in sitting there healing everyone.
No man's an island and his castle isn't home.
The nest is for nothing when the bird has flown."

So I took a journey through my world into the sea.
Will beware the teacher, who found fun instead of me.

Hey man, what's your plan, what was that you said?
Suntan, drinking head, lying there in bed.
I tried to socialize but I can't seem to find
What I was looking for. Got something on my mind.

Then the teacher told me it had been a lot of fun,
Thanked me for his ticket and all that I had done.

Hey man, what's your plan, what was that you said?
Suntan, drinking head, lying there in bed.
I tried to socialize but I can't seem to find
What I was looking for. Got something on my mind.

Ha! You did it again, Connie! But since "Rotten" was already used, "teacher" is much more original...so I win again!

Found a peanut, found a peanut,
Found a peanut just now,
Just now I found a peanut,
Found a peanut just now.

Cracked it open, cracked it open,
Cracked it open just now,
Just now I cracked it open,
Cracked it open just now.

"Who threw the overalls
In Mrs. Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so he
Shouted all the louder.

Bright Side of Life
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistling]

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle. That's the thing.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistling]
Always look on the right side of life,

Low down dirty shame

low down dirty shame
The way that you treated me

I can look at you,

I think SilkMuse just beat us, Connie, so we'll have to start over ...that's a pretty nifty combo, there SM (jellicle cats)!

Nashville Cats
The Lovin' Spoonful
- peak Billboard position # 8 in 1967
- Words and Music by John B. Sebastian

CHORUS
Nashville Cats, play clean as country water
Nashville Cats, play wild as mountain dew
Nashville Cats, been playin' since they's babies
Nashville Cats, get work before they're two

Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar pickers in Nashville
And they can pick more notes than the number of ants
On a Tennessee anthill
Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two
Guitar cases in Nashville
And any one that unpacks 'is guitar could play
Twice as better than I will

Yeah, I was just thirteen, you might say I was a
Musical proverbial knee-high
When I heard a couple new-sounding tunes on the tubes
And they blasted me sky-high
And the record man said every one is a Yellow Sun
Record from Nashville
And up North there ain't nobody buys them
And I said, "But I will"

And it was
CHORUS

Well, there's sixteen thousand eight hundred 'n' twenty one
Mothers from Nashville
All their friends play music, and they ain't uptight
If one of the kids will
Because it's custom made for any mother's son
To be a guitar picker in Nashville
And I sure am glad I got a chance to say a word about
The music and the mothers from Nashville

High and dry in the long hot day
Lost and lonely in every way
Got the flats all around me sky up above
I need a little water of love

I've been too long lonely and my heart feels pain
Crying out for some soothing rain
I believe I have taken enough
I need a little water of love

Water of love deep in the ground
No water here to be found
Some day baby when the river runs free
It'll carry that water of love to me

There's a bird up in a tree sitting up high
Waiting for me to die
If I don't get some water soon
I'll be dead and gone in the afternoon

Once I had a woman I could call my own
Once I had a woman now my woman is gone
Once there was a river now there's a stone
You know it's evil when you're living alone

Left a good job in the city,
Working for The Man every night and day,
And I never lost one minute of sleeping,
Worrying 'bout the way things might have been.

Big wheel keep on turning,
Proud Mary keep on burning,
Rolling, rolling, rolling on the river.

Dere's an ol' man called de Mississippi;
Dat's de ol' man dat I'd like to be!
What does he care if de world's got troubles?
What does he care if de land ain't free?
Ol' Man River,
Dat Ol' Man River
He mus' know sumpin' But don't say nuthin',
He jes' keeps rollin',
He keeps on rollin' along.
He don't plant taters,
He don't plant cotton,
An' dem dat plants 'em
Is soon forgotten,
But Ol' Man River,
He jes' keeps rollin' along
You an' me, we sweat an' strain,
Body all achin' an' racked wid pain -
Tote dat barge!
Lif' dat bale!
Git a little drunk,
An' you land in jail...
Ah gits weary
An' sick of tryin';
Ah'm tired of livin'
An skeered of dyin',
But Ol' Man River,
He jes' keeps rollin' along

Couldn't you use a song that actually had some English in it WO'N?

She reminds me of the breath of summer sun
That breaks the cool daylight when morning has begun
Shine on sunshine; paint my life of grey
Shine on sunshine; warm my life always.
Better yet by far the best I ever saw;
The rain that breaks your heart
Won't bend our love for sure
So shine on sunshine, spread your light my way;
Shine on sunshine, weave your spell always.
Oh I get weary but she only has to smile
And all my fear is soon forgotten for a while.

"Shine on Sunshine"

starry, starry night
paint your palette blue and grey.
look out on a summer's day,
with eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
shadows on the hills
sketch the trees and the daffodils
catch the breeze and the winter chills
in colors on the snowy linen land

Are the stars out tonight
I don't know if it's cloudy or bright
I only have eyes for you
The moon may be high
but I can't see a thing in the sky
I only have eyes for you.

I do know if I'm in a garden
Or on a crowdedavenue
you are here so am I
Maybe millions of people go by -
But they all disappear from view
Because I only have eyes for you.

And now the purple dusk of twilight time
Steals across the meadows of my heart
High up in the sky the little moon starts to
....b
...m
..i
.l
c
Always reminding me that we're apart
You wandered down the lane and far away
Leaving me a song that will not die
Love is now the stardust of yesterday
The music of the years gone by

Sometimes I wonder why I spend
a lonely night dreaming of a song
The melody haunts my reverie,
and I am once again with you
When our love was new
and each kiss an inspiration
But that was long ago,
now my consolation is in the stardust of a song.

Beside a garden wall,
when stars are bright,
you are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
Of paradise where roses grew
Though I dream in vain,
in my heart it will remain
My stardust melody,
The memory of love's refrain

Oh yeah, Stardust, the song voted by the Songwriters Of America as the most perfect song written in the 20th century, oh yeah, that Stardust...

Heavenly shades of night are falling,
It's twilight time.
Out of the mist your voice is calling,
It's twilight time,
When purple colored curtains
Mark the end of the day.
I hear you my dear at twilight time.
Deepening shadows gather splendor
As day is done.
Fingers of night will soon surrender
The setting sun.
I count the moments, darling,
Till you're here with me,
Together at last at twilight time.

Here, in the after-glow of day,
We keep our __ beneath the blue.
___________ \___ rendez-vous
Here, in the sweet and same old way,
I f ll in love again as I did then.
  a

Deep in the dark your kiss will thrill me
Like days of old.
Lighting the spark of love that fills me
With dreams untold.
Each day I pray for evening just
To be with you,
Together at last at twilight time......
Together at last at twilight time.

That's just too cool, Milo! I'd give you an extra .25 [read: a generous 1/4th of a point] in addition to the normal portion of originality points just for that maneuver!

I hear you calling and you
don't have to call so loud
I see you falling and you don't
have to walk so proud
You can run all night but we
can take you where
You can shout out in anger
You can laugh like a fool
You can cry like an angel

I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done my momma's still my biggest fan
Sometimes I'm clueless and I'm clumsy
But I've got friends that love me
And they know just where I stand
It's all a part of me
And that's who I am

Who Do You Love ~ Bo Diddley
1956 A.D.

I walk 47 miles of barbed wire,
I use a cobra-snake for a necktie,
I got a brand new house on the roadside,
Made from rattlesnake hide,
I got a brand new chimney made on top,
Made out of a human skull,
Now come on take a walk with me, Arlene,
And tell me, who do you love?

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?

I gota tombstone hand and a graveyard mind,
I'm just 22 and I don't mind dying.

Who do you love?
Who do you love?

I rode around the town, use a rattlesnake whip,
Take it easy Arlene, don't give me no lip,

Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Night was dark, but the sky was blue,
Down the alley, the ice-wagon flew,
Heard a bUMp, and somebody ScreeeameD,
You should have heard just what I seen.

Who do you love?
Who do you love?

Arlene took me by my hand,
And she said ooowee Bo, you know I understand.

Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
Who do you love?
