Better start another! 4 continuations must be a record! The last entry was from Angel: I would never be able to forgive myself if I didn't cross thread this one! Lookin out on the morning rain (Ah-ooo) I used to feel so uninspired (Ah-ooo) And when I knew I had to face another day (Ah-ooo) Lord it made me feel so tired Before the day I met you Life was so unkind But your love the key to my piece of mind Cause you make me feel You make me feel You make me feel Like a natural woman (woman) "A Natural Woman" ~~the queen of soul........Aretha Franklin Your Happy Epeolatrist!

Early Morning Rain
In the early morning rain with a dollar in my hand With an aching in my heart and my pockets full of sand I'm a long way from home and I miss my loved one so In the early morning rain with no place to go
Out on runway number nine big 707 set to go But I'm stuck here on the grass where the cold winds they do blow And where whiskey was and bars and the women they were fine There she goes my friend, she rolling down at last
Here the mighty engines roar, see the silver bird on high She's away and westward bound, far above the clouds she'll fly There the morning rain don't fall and the sun always shines She'll be flying over my home in about three hours time
This old airport's got me down it ain't no earthy good to me Because I'm stuck here on the ground, cold and drunk as I can be You can't hop a jet plane like you can a railroad train So I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain

So kiss me and smile for me, Tell me that you'll wait for me, Hold me like you'll never let me go. Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane Don't know when I'll be back again - Oh Babe, I hate to go.

Mother told me always to follow the golden rule. And she said it's really a sin to be mean and cruel. So remember if you're untrue Angels up in heaven are looking at you.
You'll never get to heaven if you break my heart. so be very careful not to make us part. You won't get to heaven if you break my heart

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf it was apricot You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner, and...

Go 'way from my window, Leave at your own chosen speed. I'm not the one you want, babe, I'm not the one you need. You say you're lookin' for someone Never weak but always strong, To protect you an' defend you Whether you are right or wrong, Someone to open each and every door, But it ain't me, babe, No, no, no, it ain't me, babe, It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe.

My baby went shopping yesterday she bought what she needs for Santa Claus she wrote a note and left it on the dresser saying she'd take her's with her, and she'd leave mine in her dresser drawers. Naturally that started me to ramblin' Pulling out all my Baby's dresser drawers I just had to find out, What did my Baby buy me for Santa Claus. The landlady saw me ramblin', got mad, and called the law. The landlady tole the police - I caught dat man with his hand in the ladies dresser drawers.I just kept on, pulling out all my Baby's dresser drawers, Still trying to find out what she done bought me for Santa Claus. The Judge said Sonny Boy, what you doing with your hands in that ladies dresser drawers ?I showed the judge the note from my Baby that showed that Sonny Boy, Was just trying to find his Santa Claus. SANTA CLAUS -Sonny Boy WilliamsonEdit: Thank You WO'N, you upstaged me without me bothering to dress my post in a rainbow of colors.

Oh the cuckoo is a pretty bird that waggles as she flies. But she never sings cuckoo till the very day she lies.
I've gambled in England, I've gambled in Spain. And I bet you ten dollars that I'll beat you once again.
I built me a cabin on a mountain so high, So I can see Mary as she goes right by.
I wish I was a poet and could write a fine hand. I'd write my love a letter, Lord, she would understand.

There's an odd sort of clanging from the clock in the hall And the bells in the steeple too And up in the nursery, an absurd little bird Is popping out to say cuckoo (Cuckoo, cuckoo...)
Regretfully they tell us, but firmly they compel us To say goodbye to you!
So Long, Farewell, from The Sound of Music (R&H)

My grandfather's clock was too large for the shelf, So it stood ninety years on the floor. It was taller by half than the old man himself, Though it weighed not a pennyweight more. It was bought on the morn of the day that he was born, And was always his treasure and pride; But it stopped, short, never to go again When the old man died.

Continuing on the theme here....
There was a man like you and me, as simple as a man could ever be; And he was happy as a king, except for one peculiar thing.
He had a clock that worked all right, It worked all right, but not exactly quite; Instead of going "tick, tock, tick", the crazy clock went "tock, tick, tock".

The very thought of you, and I forget to do The little ordinary things that everyone ought to do I'm living in a kind of daydream I'm happy as a king And foolish though it may seem, to me that's everything
The mere idea of you, the longing here for you You'll never know how slow the moments go till I'm near to you I see your face in every flower Your eyes in stars above It's just the thought of you The very thought of you, my love

Laughing in a crown of jewels, numbness from a sceptors wound. Toss and Turn, I spin and learn, "catch yourself before you burn."
A joker's dance before the king, jangling beads, a silver ring. Close your eyes and bare the sound, jumping up - falling down.

I write this song in memory of a woman that I knew she loved me much and I loved her but then she never knew and I was forced to go away there was nothing I could say I had to leave that very day for almost two years or more
and now she's gone and I am left with memories of her breast and days of life and nights of love and all the wondrous rest I shan't forget and the effect it isn't even finished yet it started 'fore we'd barely met ten long years ago yesterday

There was a jolly Milum once Lived on the river Dee; He work'd, and sung, from morn till night, No Lark more blythe than he. And this the burden of his song, For ever us'd to be, "I care for nobody, not I, If no one cares for me."

You know the landlord rang my front doorbell, I let it ring for a long, long, spell, I peeped through the window and pulled back the blinds, I said, wont you tell me what is on your mind?
He said "Money Honey" Doo wap de die, If you want to get along with me.
Well I screamed and I hollered I was so hard pressed, I called the woman that I loved best, I finally got my Baby 'bout half passed three She said, wont you tell me why you calling me?
I said "Money Honey" Do wap de die If you want to get along with me.

This truly great song with well-crafted, highly imaginative, poignantly poetic lyric merits a pasting in its remarkable ripeness. Right?
One morning when I was out shopping Though you'll find it hard to believe A little blue man came out of the crowd And timidly tugged at my sleeve
"I wuv you! I wuv you!" said the little blue man "I wuv you! I wuv you to bits!" "I wuv you!" He loved me, said the little blue man And scared me right out of my wits
I hurried back to my apartment I rushed in and I closed the door But there on my desk stood the little blue man Who started to tell me once more
"I wuv you! I wuv you!" said the little blue man "I wuv you! I wuv you to bits!" "I wuv you!" He loved me, said the little blue man And scared me right out of my wits
For weeks after that I was haunted Though no one could see him but me Right by my side was the little blue man Wherever I happened to be
"I wuv you! I wuv you!" said the little blue man "I wuv you! I wuv you to bits!" "I wuv you!" He loved me, said the little blue man And scared me right out of my wits
One evening in wild desperation I rushed to a rooftop in town And over the side pushed the little blue man Who sang to me on the way down "I wuuuuv youuuu!"
I whispered, "Thank goodness that's over!" I smiled as I hurried outside But there on the street stood the little blue man Who said with a tear in his eye "I don't wuv you anymore."

My analyst told me that I was right out of my head The way he described it, he said I'd be better dead than live I didn't listen to his jive I knew all along he was all wrong And I knew that he thought I was crazy but I'm not Oh no!
My analyst told me that I was right out of my head He said I'd need treatment but I'm not that easily led He said I was the type that was most inclined When out of his sight to be out of my mind And he thought I was nuts, no more ifs or ands or buts Oh no!
They say as a child I appeared a little bit wild With all my crazy ideas But I knew what was happenin', I knew I was a genius What's so strange when you know that you're a wizard at three? I knew that this was meant to be
Well I heard little children were supposed to sleep tight That's why I drank a fifth of vodka one night My parents got frantic, didn't know what to do But I saw some crazy scenes before I came to Now do you think I was crazy? I may have been only three but I was swingin'
They all laughed at Al Graham Bell They all laughed at Edison and also at Einstein So why should I feel sorry if they just couldn't understand The litany and the logic that went on in my head? I had a brain, it was insane Don't you let them laugh at me When I refused to ride on all those double decker buses All because there was no driver on the top
My analyst told me that I was right out of my head The way he described it, he said I'd be better dead than live I didn't listen to his jive I knew all along he was all wrong And I knew that he thought I was crazy but I'm not Oh no!
My analyst told me that I was right out of my head But I said "Dear doctor, I think that it's you instead 'Cause I have got a thing that's unique and new It proves that I'll have the last laugh on you 'Cause instead of one head... I got two And you know two heads are better than one"

They laughed at me, wanting you. Said I was reaching for the moon. But oh, you came through. Now they'll have to change their tune.
They all said we never would be happy. Darling, let's take a bow. But ho, ho, ho. Who's got the last laugh now?

~The summer wind came blowin' in from across the sea
It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me
All summer long, we sang a song and then we strolled that golden sand
Two sweethearts and the summer wind

WO'N day while I was eating down at Smokey Joe's CafeJust sitting digging on the scene at Smokey Joe's CafeA chick came walking through the door, That I had never seen before At least I'd never seen her down at Smokey Joe's CafeAnd I started shaking -when she sat right down next to me. Her knees were almost touching mine at smokey Joe's CafeA chill was running down my spine at Smokey Joe's CafeI could smell her sweet perfume she looked at me my heart went Boom And everybody in the room at Smokey Joe's CafeSaid: Man be careful- that chick belongs to Smokey Joe!Then from behind the counter out stepped a man A chef's hat on his head, a knife in his hand He grabbed me by the collar and began to shout... You better eat up all your beans boy and clear right on out Well I know I'll never eat again at Smokey Joe's CafeAnd so we'll never meet again at Smokey Joe's CafeI'd rather eat my Chili beans at Jims or Jacks or Johns or Jeans, Than take my chances on the scene at Smokey Joe's Cafe. I risked my life - at Smokey Joe's that crazy fool. SMOKEY JOE"S CAFE-The Robins(who later became) The Coasters( I'm so smart. I remembered all the words.)

COME A LITTLE BIT CLOSER In a little café just the other side of the border She was just sitting there givin' me looks that made my mouth water So I started walking her way She belonged to that man, José And I knew, yes I knew I should leave When I heard her say, yeah Come a little bit closer You're my kind of man So big and so strong Come a little bit closer I'm all alone And the night is so long

Uranium money Is booming in the old home town now It's putting up sleek concrete Tearing the old landmarks down now Paving over brave little parks Ripping off Indian land again How long--how long Short sighted business men Ah, nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Nothing lasts for long-- Down at the Chinese Cafe We'd be dreaming on our dimes We'd be playing-- "You give your love, so sweetly" One more time

And now I know Spanish Harlem are not just pretty words to say I thought I knew But now I know that rose trees never grow in New York City
Until you've seen this trash can dream come true You stand at the edge while people run you through And I thank the Lord there's people out there like you I thank the Lord there's people out there like you
While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers Turn around and say good morning to the night For unless they see the sky But they can't and that is why They know not if it's dark outside or light
This Broadway's got It's got a lot of songs to sing If I knew the tunes I might join in I'll go my way alone Grow my own, my own seeds shall be sown in New York City
Subway's no way for a good man to go down Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown And I thank the Lord for the people I have found I thank the Lord for the people I have found

Streets of London Ralph McTell
Have you seen the old man in the closed down market Kicking up the paper with his worn out shoes In his eyes you see no pride And held loosely by his side, yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news
How can you tell me you're lonely And say, for you, that the sun don't shine Let me take you by the hand And lead you through the streets of London I'll show you something to make you change your mind
Have you seen the old gal who walks the streets of London Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags She's no time for talkin, she just keeps right on walkin Carryin her home in two carrier bags
In the all night cafe at a quarter past eleven Same old man sitting there on his own Looking at the world over the rim of his teacup Each tea lasts an hour and he goes home alone
Have you seen the old man outside the seaman's mission Memory fading like the ribbons that he wears In our winter city, the rain cries a little pity For one more forgotten hero in a world that doesn't care
(do you know this as a blue/rap? a ballad? not at all? i learned it as a ballad, as did my daughter, in the early 90's it was done as a rap song, and her friends were all surprized at its previous existance.)

We are made of sunbeams we are made of molten glass we can light the fire of living we can learn with an ugly past we can roar into the future like a bull with battered brains and it's a mighty thin line 'tween livin' and dyin and all these stupid games and it all depends on if you use your mind

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go. So make the best of this test, and don't ask why. It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life. So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind. Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time.
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial. For what it's worth, it was worth all the while. It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life. It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right. I hope you had the time of your life.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe. “Beware the Jabberwock, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun The frumious Bandersnatch!” He took his vorpal sword in hand: Long time the manxome foe he sought— So rested he by the Tumtum tree, And stood awhile in thought. And, as in uffish thought he stood, The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame, Came whiffling through the tulgey wood, And burbled as it came! One, two! One, two! And through and through The vorpal blade went snicker-snack! He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back. “And, hast thou slain the Jabberwock? Come to my arms, my beamish boy! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!” He chortled in his joy. ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the momeraths outgrabe. Lewis Carroll -- Jabberwocky AnnaS & Keiva: Might as well get the whole thing...Must add this version: The Jabberwocky Spellchecked by Modern Technology Teas broiling and the silty tomes Did gyrate and gamble in the wave All misery were the boroughs And the mime rashes outraged. "Beware the Jabberer, my son! The jaws that bite, the claws that catch Beware the jujitsu bird and shun The furious bantering." He took his viracity sword in hand: Long time the maximal foe he sought So rested he by the tom-tom tree And stood awhile in thought. And as in Irish thought he stood, The Jabberer, with eyes of flame Came waffling through the Tulsa wood And burbled as it came. One two, One Two! And through and through The voracity blade went snicker snack! He left it dead and with its head He went glamoring back. "And hats thou slain the Jabberer! Come to my arms, my bleakish boy! O farmhouse day! Calculi! Canary! He chortled in his joy. Teas broiling and the silty tomes Did gyrate and gamble in the wave All misery were the boroughs And the mime rashes outraged. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Lotus version) Twas bridling and the slight toes Did gyre and gimlet in the wade All mimes were the boroughs And the modem rats outgrew. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (MS Word version) Twas brisling, and the smithy toes Did gyre and gamble in the wade: All missy were the borogroves, And the mom rates outgrabe. [Edit] I've been reminded that this (the original) is known as a poem, not a song. True, and by rights it would be placed more appropriately in the Poetry thread. However, <rimshot> a cursory study reveals that it has been set to music at least four times. st

Looka there honey o-o-e, looka there honey, mercy me. Looka there honey o-o-e, way over there by the peacher tree.
Now I love yo peaches, they so mellow and fine, When if we start lovin', Every now and then they run across my mind.
Looka there honey, o-o-e, looka there baby, mercy me, Way over there by the peacher tree.

Look at the widow, Bloody great cow,
Isn't grand boys, to be bloody well dead? Lets not have a wimper, lets have a bloody great cry, and always remember the longer you live, the sooner you bloody well die!
Look at the preacher, Bloody great hypocrite,
Isn't grand boys to be bloody well dead? (etc)
irish traditional sung to a lively, cheerful tune, like all great irish songs about death!)

Hey lady--you got the love I need Maybe more than enough. Oh Darling... walk a while with me You've got so much...
Many have I loved - Many times been bitten Many times I've gazed along the open road.
Many times I've lied - Many times I've listened Many times I've wondered how much there is to know.
Many dreams come true and some have silver linings I live for my dream and a pocketful of gold.

I have a dream, a song to sing To help me cope with anything If you see the wonder of a fairy tale You can take the future even if you fail I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream - I have a dream

And a good Day-o to you too, Wordwind, and thanks. I, the mechanical Praying Mantis, have been lurking and waiting here in the far right side of your computer screen for an innocent, beautiful, Golden-Green Jeweled Dragon-fly-ness like you to become entangled in the sticky crystalline words of this web thread. NOW I POUNCE...
New Jersey turnpike in the wee wee hours I was rolling slowly 'cause of Christmas showers Up come a flattop he was movin'up with me Then waved good-bye in a little ole souped up fifty I put my foot in my tank and I blew my horn Bye Bye New Jersey I become airborne
'Cause you can't catch me 'Cause if you get to close you know I'm gone like a COOOOooooooOOOOL Breeze!
THE SONG AFTER MAYBELENE - Chuck Berry
Note: It would have been fitting to follow Wordwind's caribbean theme with Chuck Berry's Havana Moon - a great song. But I couldn't find a single word to match. Besides I wanted to experiment with my wide screen cute-ism. It worked on my screen, but if it messed up anybodys scroll, PM me and I'll delete it. -mw

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight I've never seen you shine so bright I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance Looking for a little romance Given half a chance I have never seen that dress you're wearing Or the highlights in your hair that catch your eyes I have been blind

Everything [dies] baby that's a fact But maybe everything that [dies] someday comes BACK.
...er...that you Whitty?...O O...a little spooky on the board tonight...O O...ah come on whitty, is that you?...
The night was black rain fallin' down Looked for my baby she's no where around I traced her footsteps down to the shore Afraid she's gone for ever more
I looked at the sea, and it seemed to say I took your baby from you away I heard a voice cryin' from the deep Come join me baby in my endless sleep
Why did we quarrel why did we fight Why did I leave her alone tonight That's why her foot steps ran into to the sea That's why my baby has gone from me I looked at the sea and it seemed to say I took your baby from you away I heard a voice cryin' from the deep Come join me baby in my endless sleep
I ran in the water heart full of fear There in the break I saw her near I reached for my darlin' held her to me I stole her away from the angry sea I looked at the sea and it seemed to say You took your baby from me away My heart cried out she's mine to keep I saved my baby from an endless sleep.
ENDLESS SLEEP - Marshell Crenshaw
POST EDIT: Consuelo, why is it that the minute I turn my back you and troves take my place in line? Gee Whizzz...

Long time ago, on a cold dark night, Someone was killed beneath the town hall light Just a few on the scene, and they did agreed, That the man who ran, looked a lot like me.
The judge said, "Son, what's your alibi? If you were some where else then you don't have to die." I spoke not a word, though it meant my life, For I had been in the arms of my best friend wife.
.................................................
She walks these hills in a long dark veil She visits my grave, when the night winds wail No body knows and no body sees, No body knows but me.

Everybody's laughin' Sunshine day! Everybody's smilin' Sunshine day! Everybody seems, so happy today!
It's a Sunshine day!"

THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT Aretha Franklin By Bob Lance and Fran Robbins
This is the house that Jack built, y'all Remember this house!
This was the land that he worked by hand The was the dream of an upright man This was the room that was filled with love This was a love that I was proud of This was a life of a love I planned Of a love and a life we loved Of the house that Jack built. Remember this house!

Well I can't read and I can't write And I don't know my left from right.
I can't tell if the sun's gonna shine And I don't know if you'll ever be mine, But I'll make love to you any old time at all.
I can't swim and I can't fly, I ain't no fish, ain't a bird in the sky.
I'll Make Love To You Anytime-J. J. Cale

My Melancholy Baby
Come to me my melancholy baby, Cuddle up and don't be blue . . . All your fears are foolish fancy, maybe You know dear that I'm in love with you! Every cloud must have a silver lining Wait until the sun shines through Smile my honey dear, while I kiss away each tear Or else I shall be melancholy too! < instrumental break > Every cloud must have a silver lining Wait until the sun shines through Smile my honey dear, while I kiss away each tear Or else I shall be melancholy too! Music by Ernie Burnett with lyrics by George A. Norton , 1912

You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby
You must have been a beautiful baby You must have been a wonderful child When you were only starting to go to kindergarten I bet you drove the little boys wild. And when it came to winning blue ribbons You must have shown the other kids how. I can see the judges' eyes as they handed you the prize You must have made the cutest bow. You must have been a beautiful baby 'Cause baby look at you now.

Ev'rybody's talking about Bagism, Shadism, Dragism, Madism, Ragism, Tagism, Thisism, Thatism, Isn't it the most? All we are saying is give peace a chance. All we are saying is give peace a chance.

I wanna tell you just how I feel I had a dream baby, I thought it was real I woke up in love, now you're all I think of
Every day I'm wastin' time I'm wonderin' how, to make you mine I'm just wishin' it could be, you feel the same for me
Since that day I've been lost I jumped on a alligator, I thought it was a horse I took one hell of a ride, down on bayou side
If I could take you to the fais-do-do We could dance on end, all across the floor And we could do it for a while, Louisiana style
I wanna take you to the fais-do-do Where we can dance baby, until we can't stand no more I wanna do it for a while,
Louisiana style - Tab Benoit

She's waiting for another love. She's waiting for another love.
She's been waiting for another love, Someone that she can show into her heart. And when she finally finds a stronger love, Your whole world's gonna fall apart.

Nicole: Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs Ewan: Well, what's wrong with that? I'd like to know, Cause, here I go again! Love lifts us up where we belong, Where eagles fly on a mountain high Nicole: Love makes us act like we are fools, Throw our lives away, For one happy day Ewan: We could be heroes, Just for one day Nicole: You, you will be mean Ewan: No, I won't Nicole: And I... I'll drink all the time Ewan: We should be lovers Nicole: We can't do that Ewan: We should be lovers, And that's a fact Nicole: No, nothing will keep us together Ewan: We could steal time, Just for one day Both: We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes, Forever and ever, We could be heroes Ewan: Just because I will always love you Nicole: I can't help loving you... How wonderful life is Both: Now, you're in the world Placido Domingo: La forza dell'amor (the power/force of Love)
ELEPHANT LOVE MEDLEY - performed by Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge -- have no idea who wrote all these lyrics from different songs!
