I have no idea whether this kind of topic will fly here, but something we used to do about every six months on a music board I posted on all the time was we'd bring everybody up-to-date on our biographies--more than what we post on our profiles here. We'd tell what we were working on musically, current favorite artists, what we were up to--that kind of thing--and it was fun.
Now you all may not like that kind of thing, but I'll go ahead a take a plunge, and, if no one joins me, fine. Another dead thread!
Word-related (a little) biographical update from Wordwind:
Am reading nothing except pedagogy, emails, IM's and song lyrics these days--oh, and always the dictionary--can't forget the dictionary.
Write all the time--spend more time writing than doing anything else, I believe.
Am inspired anytime someone takes me to an old admired poem, mostly forgotten, and see the wealth there anew--better than before. And to a new poem I hadn't known. I don't mind off-rhymes at all--and I love poetry that doesn't rhyme at all. And also I love poetry that I don't understand--but come to understand a little at a time. Confusion in poems doesn't bother me. Big fan of Emily's and Sylvia's and am sure I don't understand them the way critics seem to--but, oh, the language! The syntax! It's enough--they make words bloom for me.
Was blown out of the water by "Amelie," the best movie I've seen in a long time and one close to my soul and spirit! Didn't even mind reading the subtitles a bit. Please don't miss that one, if you haven't seen it, and you think the imagination is by far more important than most reality.
Music: Want to hear Brahms more than anything these days, but am listening to a lot of Du Pré again--have lots of her recordings, but am currently listening to her EMI "Les Introuvables de Jacqueline Du Pré"--the Elgar, Dvorak, and Schumann are unbelievable--better now than ever in returning to, just as those poems are.
Kids at school will begin our work on "Annie"--and I will hate the song "Tomorrow" in about six weeks.
My favorite public word is triboluminescence because of my friend Bill!! Won't tell you my favorite private word.
Favorite poem will always be "Tintern Abbey" ("Lines Written abov..."); favorite book is Boswell's biography of Dr. Johnson.
Favorite food (just for you, Helen): Fried oysters!
Now, if anyone would like to wax biographical here, it could be fun. We really did enjoy doing this on Mastronet.com
