Yes, Vegemite is made by Kraft, and the reason I say scandal is that when Kraft bought Vegemite all of Australia was up in arms about an Aussie Icon being produced by an American company. Another Aussie Icon [tongue firmly placed in cheek] Dick Smith then decided to produce an Australian version, called Mighty Mite (or something like that) and try to convince Australia to keep our Dollars (worth the little that they are) out of the hands of those e-vil USns . Let's just say it hasn't taken off as well as he would have liked. There's a lot to be said for branding. I still buy Vegemite.
