In most cases, the creator of the web site was given some vague information about the visitors being "tracked" but not complete disclosure. AOL is sited-- when AOL user set up their free web page-- AOL encourages them to place and offering $50 for every visiter who signs up for a free month of AOL.. Implicit in this, is that AOL has to have some way of tracking who click on the ads.. but AOL can track every visitor-- not just the ones who clicked on the ad.. (are you reading this tsuwm?)and this information can be sold to third parties..in other cases third parties might be responsible for collecting the data..
i have less worries about my "boss's" collecting data than unknown third parties.. and who knows what they(3rd parties) are doing with it?
