So an overwhelming vote (9 out of 20) for the right answer, number 4 it was.
Liripoop (or liripipe, as maverick remembered) according to Chambers, is a long appendage, attached to the end of a hood.
I came across the word in its liripipe form, in the UK Saturday Times jumbo crossword about two weeks ago. Having constructed the word from the clue, I had to look up its meaning.
Since a lot of you knew the word, I have visions of you all at your desks idly toying with your liripoops .
Congratulations for your ingenuity in the definitions and your restraint, I had expected some guano definitions.
My gratitude to mariana for choosing my own false definition, I have doubled your points for this round .
My public apologies to Bobyounbalt for inadvertently leaving his entry out of the list, he gets my point from mariana! (* in table)
I decided to throw technology at the scoring so here is the spreadsheet.

Current Protests:
1) The Americans have been disqualified for passing the baton too early
2) The SouthernHemisphereans have been disqualified for celebrating their victory too early

Any other protests to me with bribes as usual.
Hogwash #12 will appear shortly.

now that the smoke has cleared and the votes are tallied, I provide this as bribe fodder, which (I hasten to add) I discovered *after making my guess.

1. In early academical costume: The long tail of a graduate's hood

†2. Something to be learned and acted or spoken; one's ‘lesson’, ‘rôle’, or ‘part’; chiefly in phrases to know or have (one's) liripoop, to teach (a person) his liripoop. Obs.
¶b. Used for: A shrewd trick.

†3. A silly person. Obs.
1621 Fletcher Pilgrim ii. i, Keepe me this young Lirrypoope within doors. 17+ Milles MS. Devon Gloss. (Halliw.), A liripoop, vel lerripoop, a silly, empty creature; an old dotard.

Thanks tswum. I found various definitions once I started trawling around, but all with the common theme of appendages to hoods, and several with the silly person meaning. But that seems to cover all bases!

Marianna... are you needing some remedial math?

I have doubled your points for this round.

Ooooooooohhhh....
Thanks tsuwm... I had interpreted that as "For this round [and only for this one], I have doubled your points."

I'll say in my favour, I DID think it odd!

Marianna,

I think he should subtract yet another moderator-point and give it to you for misspelling your name, fancy spread-sheets aside. (harrumph®)

Step right up, Max...there, that's better. Now all along you have been pursuing that elusive point, believing its absence diminished you. But little did you realize you have always been in full possession of the point you sought. And, so, with this wave of the wand, and special certificate, you are hereby Annointed one of the Pointed!

Marianna,
my abject apologies for misspelling your name. I originally had it listed with 2 Rs, and removed one, I just did not notice the missing N (and a very lovely N it is too).
I have decided to TRIPLE the points you scored in this round, OK?
Rod
