This is another shading of the Chrysler/Daimler controversy. When those two got together a few years ago, it was termed a "merger," but Daimler has control, and now the Chrysler folk are rebelling at changes and imperatives from Daimler. A couple of months ago, NPR ran stories about how the initial transaction was sold to Chysler stockholders as a merger, and that the transaction wouldn't have occurred if it had been revealed as an acquisition.

Re Daimler:
Somewhere back in the days when Britain stood alone in WWII the Nazi's bombed the village of Coventry damned near into oblivion ... a few days later workers at an auto plant there went in to work and turned out one car, all hand made, to thus thumb their noses at the Nazi louts.
I had thought the car company and workers were Daimler. Anyone confirm or correct? Or was the whole story just wartime propaganda?

I do not see a smile on my friend's face anymore these days. His wife works at Lucent (or maybe worked at Lucent, I am afraid to ask). Everyday he looks as if he has not slept a wink. With a huge mortgage and a car loan, with 2 small children in tow, there must be unease in the household.
OPTICS indeed!

is missing. They updated the article when LUCENT pulled out and it became 32LUCE. If you get "not found" it is often a good tactic to move back up the url to the previous / and try that. This resolved the problem in this case.

The value of language continues to be graphically demonstrated:

Standard & Poor has lowered the credit rating of Lucent Technologies to junk bond status yesterday…
