on the other hand, if a poem has been shaped to represent its subject, it has in all probability been altered.{smile}

I clicked on belligerentyouth's link to the teen poem, but both times my Internet froze up. Did anyone else have this problem??

As Addisonian was an AWAD not so long ago, here is an article from the Spectator by Addison on these poems, the earliest known examples of which are by the Greek poet Simmias of Rhodes and date back to 324 BC. Addison didn't think much of them, by the way.

Oh! The article mentions one of our own!!
