I would have said “reported by” or “used by“ rather than “accepted by”. It’s the way no less an authority than Webster’s Third International asserted that “uninterested“ was the equivalent of “disinterested“ - and that was in 1961. I disagree. Even if - and maybe especially if - you know exactly which one I meant.

(Obviously I’m a prescriptivist.)

Hmmm. Searching for "aneurysm" gets about 1.8 million Google-hits, and "aneurism" gets 2,4 million Ghits, and you even have to insist on the search for -ism or it goes to -ysm by default. So it's used with that spelling, but I wouldn't call it "more popular." Not that any of it matters for our purposes, really.
