I hate it when I do stupid things like that!
I was looking for a tool in the workshop and couldn't open the door on one of the cupboards I thought it might be in. So I stuck my head half in the other door to see if it had an interior latch. It didn't. The next logical step was to keep looking and give a hard pull to see where it was sticking. Unfortunately it was no longer sticking. Wham! The next logical step was to hop around the workshop with my hand over my ear saying "Ow that hurts! Oh that was stupid! Ow that hurts!"
My ear is now a dull purple and a size larger than usual, I can't even cover it with my hair because I have to keep my hair tied up at work.
I feel like an idiot

with a sore ear.

Actually, the ear is itself a unit of measurement, equal to the size of Oliver Smoot's ear. I would propose that referring to an ear bcoming one size larger would mean that it has increased in size by one deciSmootear.

BTW, when I discovered the smoot markings on the Harvard Bridge the notice recorded in the Wikipedia entry as "plus or minus one ear" was "plus one-half ear."

An added bit of the story: I was walking the streets of Boston one day and some entrepeneur offered to sell me the Harvard Bridge. I asked him how long it was and he gave me an answer in feet.
That was how I knew he was misrepresenting his claim to the right to sell it.

Hope the ear's feeling better by now, Zed, no matter what size or color it is.

Much less pain now but there is a pointy little lump on top that is not going away. When the purple fades to green I'm going to look half Vulcan.
