I'd like to know the source of the medical term parenteral. It means "injectable" like insulin or a flu shot, but I'd like to know where the heck "parent" came from.

Nope! Here's "parent": Origin: 1375–1425; late ME (< MF) < L parent- (s. of paréns), n. use of prp. of parere to bring forth, breed

The word in bold, especially, reminded me of "etaoin", and that's where the word (I made up) came from. The closest real word seems to be "parenetioal", as helpfully suggested by Myr... Sorry for the confusion (okay, not really... LOL!!!) ;0)
