These hallowed forums. Such wit. Such erudition.

I am sorry for asking the following question.

When one tickles a baby's chin, it is customary to make a sound that is, approximately (ahem): "Coochy coochy coo!"

The problem: I need to use this exclamation in something I am writing.

The question: Is this the standard spelling?

Coochy coochy coo gets the most google hits so far. But is there another spelling I haven't tried that yields five, ten, twenty times more G-hits?

Tsk! Vroom! Schlump! Whaam!

If these can be confirmed with a Dictionary, why not Coochy coo?

OED citations welcome.

Coochie, or cooch, is also slang for the pudendum muliebre; cf. hoochee coochee dance of Little Egypt. (Also, Hootchy-Kootchy or Hoochee-Coochee or the shimmy and shake.)

[Addendum: More spellings and a short article.]

I always thought that it had a "t" in it, exemplified here , unless you are a total yuppie, in which case this one might be more germane! See - my IQ has already been lowered a few points!

Myridon shows us 1,090 hits for "cootchy coo".

Of course! The "t". The words "smoochy" and "coot" (both in the dictionary) establish a phonemic precedent for "cootchy cootchy coo".

Case closed.

(What to make of this image is another question.)
