http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ringtone+DJ&defid=748884

It gets thousands of Ghits, but like most of the rest of you I distrust UD. A quick Googling seems to indicate instead that the expr means anyone who collects ringtones

So have you heard or do you use the expr and if so what's your take on its usu meaning--thanks all

You weary me, DH. You exhaust me. I grow fatigued with you. I can't even type in the URL of a thesaurus and continue with my vocabulary of ennui. I die. I expire. Finito la musica.

I think, Dale, that it always seems to be the same question. you find a phrase on the Urban Dictionary, and ask us whether we've heard it, and agree with the proferred definition.

perhaps if you followed a few of those ghits, and then gave us some comparison of what you found, it would give us more to chew on.

most of the words/phrases that you find at the Urban Dictionary are going to be new, and untested. someone, somewhere, comes up with something they think is clever, and they post it. probably with a greater frequency than Mother Nature herself invents things...

it is worse than the Wikipedia as far as control is concerned.

I agree with Dale. What did he do to deserve this pretentious dressing-down?

I don't understand this exasperation. I think some of the words Dale has brought to the board's attention have been interesting. Certainly not exasperating. And anyway, if you're not interested, don't read his threads.

Don't worry Dale. I think they're just dissin' your Urban Dictionary for Geek-cred.

>most of the words/phrases that you find at the Urban Dictionary are going to be new, and untested

That's not my experience. But I guess you have been searching the Urban Dictionary for new, untested words, and been disturbed to discover they have an entry.

It reminds me of that story about a woman who took Dr. Johnson to task for recording "improper" words in his dictionary: He stopped in mock horror and said: "But madam, you have been looking for them!"

Or, if you have not, then this criticism is based on the words Dale has introduced to you; and in that case you would have us believe that his posts represent a comprehensive cross-section of all the words in the Urban Dictionary. You may be tempted to make the hyperbolic riposte that that is so, but your argument that "most of the words/phrases that you find at the Urban Dictionary are new and untested" remains indefensible.

OK. I'll do something, Hydra, (or Dale), that you would never do: I'll apologize. I am so sorry Hydra that I ruined your day or night as it were. So very sorry. It was just friendly banter. La!

Then 'tis I owe you the apology. I am sorry for getting on my soap-box and pooh-poohing your repartee. It's just, I thought you might have frightened Dale off, and I for one am not entirely uninterested in his Urban Dictionary findings.

Edit: By the way, Hydra does have many faces, but Dale is not one of them, as I'm sure Dale will testify.

According to the logic of this comment, there is some critical number of words that may be added to a dictionary per a certain time-frame before the authenticity of not only words thereafter coined, but also all words already coined, can be automatically rejected. Pray, etaoin, what is this magic number? 581? 10? 6?
