I've always found it hard work to differentiate ironic/sarcastic/paradoxical/satirical... The differences between some of these words in certain cases is pretty fine.

Easier by example:

Irony: The mascot of Wu's Chinese laundry/shirt irony is one of those rumply dogs.
Sarcasm: "I've seen prettier faces on iodine bottles."
Paradox: Arnie built a time machine that fell on his past self when he went back in time, killing him, so he could not have later built the machine...
Satire: Etaoin is still waiting for the other shoe to drop.

What's up with that shoe?

On the heels of Marianna, I would like to ask you (while being careful to tread carefully so as not to put my foot in it) is your sole aim to amuse, or is the shoe laced with some special significance?

heh. actually, there are two threads laced together here; one to amuse (mostly myself) and the other a more serious look at my recent life.

firstly, we once had a conversation about Chuck Taylors, hence the photo (I think that IS the left one, Marianna. ), and secondly, I am about a week away from finalizing my divorce, which is why, after this last year and a half, I hope there are no more shoes to drop...

I'd say the Converse is true, but some heel would try to counter that. It'd be the last thing I wanted.
