Betsy suggested we start this game anew, so here's the steenkin' rulz:
A line (or two) of lyrics, followed by the name of the song and the performer or lyricist's name starts the game. The next to reply takes one (or two) words from that lyric and posts a line (or two) from another song that contains the same word (or two). And so on...
Here's the beginning lyric:
I don't know but I been told, a big-legged woman ain't got no soul. -Black Dog by Led Zepplin

No fair! I read Connie's initial post and prepared to respond with the following:
"Oh, I get the blues if the rhythm ain't got no soull You got to keep it rollin'."
~Rollin', Garth Brooks
Then Maverick snuck in and posted first. Grrrr. Okay.
"The priest sat in the airport bar He was wearing his father’s tie And his eyes looked into my eyes so far Whenever the words ran dry"

They, said some day you'll find All who love are blind When you heart's on fire You must realize Smoke gets in your eyes
So I chaffed them, and I gaily laughed To think they would doubt our love And yet today, my love has gone away I am without my love Smoke Gets in Your Eyes - The Platters (circa 1958) " So I chaffed them, and I gaily laughed" You seldom hear chaffing lyrics like that anymore.

"This is Major Tom to Ground Control I'm stepping through the door And I'm floating in a most peculiar way And the stars look very different today For here Am I sitting in a tin can Far above the world Planet Earth is blue And there's nothing I can do Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles I'm feeling very still And I think my spaceship knows which way to go Tell my wife I love her very much she knows" David Bowie, Ground Control to Major Tom

Worked all the summer, and worked all the fall I had to take my Christmas, in my overall But now she gone, and I don't worry Because I'm sitting on top of the world
Goin' down to the freight yard, just to meet a freight train I'm gonna leave this town, work's done got hard But now she gone, and I don't worry 'Cause I'm sitting on top of the world. _________________________________________ Sitting on Top of the World _______________________________________________By Howlin' Wolf (1954)

Said that I'm like fallin' from grace. You'd never know it to look at me. Under the Dracula moon. Love comes down any way it wants to. Doesn't ask for your permission. Open up your arms or it will break you in two. - Joan Osborne, Dracula Moon

I'll have a Blue Christmas without you I'll be so blue thinking about you Decorations of red on a green Christmastree Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me
I'll have a Blue Christmas that's certain And when that blue heartache starts hurtin' You'll be doin' all right, with your Christmas of white, But I'll have a blue, blue Christmas

Where have all my friends gone, they've all disappeared Turned around maybe one day you're all that was there Stood by on believing, stood by on my own Always thought I was someone, turned out I was wrong You brought me through, and you made me feel So blue Why don't you stay behind?

Sometimes I walk alone at night When everybody else is sleeping I think of him and I'm happy With the company I'm keeping The city goes to bed And I can live inside my head
On my own Pretending he's beside me All alone I walk with him till morning Without him I feel his arms around me And when I lose my way I close my eyes And he has found me

I still haven't got over it even now. I want to spend huge amounts of time on my own. I don't want to cause any serious damage. I want to make sure that I can manage, Because I'm not really in your head , I'm not really in your head.
And I see love and disaffection And the clouds build up and won't pass over. This is my road to my redemption. And my life is just an image of a rollercoaster anyway.

You talk like Marlene Dietrich And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire Your clothes are all made by Balmain And there`s diamonds and pearls in your hair You live in a fancy appartement Of the Boulevard of St. Michel Where you keep your Rolling Stones records And a friend of Sacha Distel But where do you go to my lovely When you're alone in your bed Tell me the thoughts that surround you I want to look inside your head...

She got to take sick and die one of these days She got to take sick and die oh! one of these days All the medicine I can buy, and all the doctors she can hire She got to take sick and die one of these days
When she's dead I'm gonna bury her very deep When she's dead I'm gonna bury her very deep I'm gonna bury her very deep, rubies and diamonds round her feet She got to take sick and die one of these days

[spoken] My heart's sad and I am all forlorn, my man's treating me mean I regret the day that I was born and that man of mine I've ever seen Happiness, it never lasts a day, my heart is almost breaking while I say...
A good man is hard to find, you always get the other kind Just when you think that he is your pal, you look for him and find him fooling 'round some other gal Then you rave, you even crave to see him laying in his grave So, if your man is nice, take my advice and hug him in the morning, kiss him ev'ry night, give him plenty lovin', treat him right For a good man nowadays is hard to find.

The people of the land took Jesus by the hand, They followed Him far and wide; "I come not to bring you peace, but a sword", So they killed Jesus Christ on the sly. He went to the sick, he went to the poor; And he went to the hungry and the lame; Said that the poor would one day win this world, And so they laid Jesus Christ in His grave.Woody Guthrie

See the pyramids along the Nile Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle Just remember, darling all the while You belong to me
See the market place in old Algiers Send me photographs and souvenirs Just remember when a dream appears You belong to me
I'll be so lonesome without you Maybe you'll be lonesome too And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane See the jungle when it's wet with rain Just remember 'til you're home again You belong to me.

I looked to the stars, tried all of the bars. And I've nearly gone up in smoke. Now my hand's on the wheel, I've something that's real, And I feel like I'm goin' home.
And in the shade of an oak down by the river, Sit an old man an' a boy, Settin' sail, spinnin' tales an' fishin' for whales, With a lady they both enjoy. Well, it's the same damn tune, it's the man in the moon. It's the way that I feel about you. And with no place to hide, I looked in your eyes, And I found myself in you.

If you cross your heart to someone You`re not suposed to tell a lie
If you cross your heart to someone You`re not suposed to tell a lie
Before you say wrong Or either do wrong It have to be so long Or either...goodbye
The first time I crossed my heart I was by your bedside on my knees
Yes, the first time I crossed my heart I was by your bedside, down on my knees
And I know the difference between I and you, I have to beg you Please, darlin`, help...me...please
I cross my heart For there's no one else I know I cross my heart to you, to you baby, because I know There`s no one else, I know Anything you tell me to do I have to do it or I`ll have to go

And the ice of her kisses lingers on and on And the image of her body live Yet you walked on black sand by the sea's turmoil In the dark of a velvet night Then you sat down and gave your hands to be kissed and loved Could not you hear a gentle sigh And by the stars part control of your wandering life Do you believe in not telling lies But it was good that you were warm on your way back home Short love, goodbye

We are the men who worry of nothing We are the men who fight without aim We listen to no one, yet speak of our wisdom We are the pawns in the game
We're getting older as time goes by A little older with everyday We were the children of yesterday
I was a child Who ran full of laughter I was a child who lived for today My eyes full of sunshine My heart full of smiles I was a child for a day

"As Time Goes By"
This day and age we're living in Gives cause for apprehension With speed and new invention And things like fourth dimension. Yet we get a trifle weary With Mr. Einstein's theory. So we must get down to earth at times Relax relieve the tension
And no matter what the progress Or what may yet be proved The simple facts of life are such They cannot be removed.]
You must remember this A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh. The fundamental things apply As time goes by.
And when two lovers woo They still say, "I love you." On that you can rely No matter what the future brings As time goes by.
Moonlight and love songs Never out of date. Hearts full of passion Jealousy and hate. Woman needs man And man must have his mate That no one can deny.
It's still the same old story A fight for love and glory A case of do or die. The world will always welcome lovers As time goes by.
Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers As time goes by.

Heaven please send, to all mankind Some understanding, and peace of mind But if its not, askin' too much Won't you please send me someone to love
I'd show the world, how to get along Peace will enter, where hate has gone But if its not, askin' too much Won't you please send me someone to love
I lay awake at night and see the world so troubled And my answer's always the same Unless man, puts an end To his terrible sins Well, hate's gonna put the world in a flame What a shame
Just because, I'm in misery Well I don't beg for, no sympathy But if its not, askin' too much Won't you please send me someone to love.

All The World
All the world's forgiving the change is all around And people everywhere have seen the light in what they've found It's a happy place in the human race When all our lives are lived forgiving All the world's for living when love is what you find Despair and loneliness you've got to leave them far behind Tell the clouds to go let the feeling show It's great when life is full of living Everyone's aware they know to change the world we've got to care And people all should know should have happened long ago Or could it be that I just now found out Life is meant to share and it means the same thing everywhere Living everyday, helping people on their way Cause sometimes life gives everyone some doubts Can I have time? Is it right what I feel? At times I doubt what I normally know is real But right now I don't know what to do And it's all because of you I could tell you if I knew that you'd believe As slight and elusive as life sometimes is Right or wrong as we both know we all can be I could never have denied that I need you by my side 'Cause without you life don't seem that much to me I can see an old man cry, it's his time to die And life no longer gives him any breaks He hasn't got a home, no one to call his own Still he tells no one that it is more than he can take When the time is so unkind, an empty future plays in your mind When the darkness cries out to you, can you escape it? What can you do? All the world's forgetting the hate that filled our hearts The times of selfish reasoning that keeps all apart This world was meant to share, let them know you care By making someone's life worth living All the world's believing that this feeling's got to stay till all the world is living till all the world is giving till all the world is loving every day.

This is where I want to be Here with you so close to me Until the final flicker of life's ember
I who was lost and lonely Believing life was only A bitter tragic joke, have found with you The meaning of existence oh my love

How High the Moon
Somewhere there's music -- how near, how far? Somewhere there's heaven -- it's where you are. The darkest night would shine if you would come to me soon; Until you will, how still my heart, how high the moon?

...but Tony Bennett sang this song first:(abridged)
A cigarette that bears a lipstick's traces, An airline ticket to romantic places, And still my heart has wings... These foolish things remind me of you.
A tinkling piano in the next apartment, Those stumbling words that told you what my heart meant, A fairground's painted swings... These foolish things remind me of you.
You came, you saw, You conquered me. When you did that to me, I knew somehow this had to be.
The sigh of midnight trains in empty stations, Silk stockings tossed aside, dance invitations. Oh, how the ghost of you clings! These foolish things remind me of you...

***steenkin roolz reminder*** It's more fun if you don't post the entire lyric, only the relevent verse. I know, I know. Sometimes you just...can't...resist...temptation. I think most have gotten the hang of bolding or coloring the link word or phrase. Great lyrics! Carry on, then...

Legs
She's got legs, she knows how to use them. She never begs, she knows how to choose them. She's holdin' leg wonderin' how to feel them. Would you get behind them if you could only find them? She's my baby, she's my baby, Yeah, it's alright.

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack And you may find yourself in another part of the world And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife And you may ask yourself-Well...How did I get here?

Baby, do me a favor, keep our business to yourself. Please, darling, do me a favor, keep our business to yourself. I don't want you to tell nobody in your family, And don't mention it to nobody else.
Don't tell your mother, Don't tell your father, Don't tell your sister, Don't mention it to your brother.
Please, darling, keep our business to yourself. Don't you tell nobody, And don't mention it to nobody else.

Step up, buddies, and listen to my song I'll sing it to you right, but you may sing it wrong, All about a man named Otto Wood, I can't tell you all, but I wish I could.
He walked in a pawn shop a rainy day, And with the clerk he had a quarrel, they say. Pulled out his pistol and he struck him a blow, And this is the way the story goes.
They put him in the pen, but it done no good, It wouldn't hold the man they call Otto Wood. It wasn't very long till he slipped outside, Drawed a gun on the guard, said, "Take me for a ride."
Second time they caught him was away out west, In the holdup game, he got shot through the breast. They brought him back and when he got well, They locked him down in a dungeon cell.

She said, I’ll forgive you frankie, She said, I’ll forgive you not, not For killin’ my lovin’ son johnny, He’s the only support that I’ve got, ’cause you shot my man and he was doin’ you wrong.
Well the last time I seen frankie She was a-sittin’ in a dungeon cell She would be there moanin’, herself With no one there to care She shot her man, a he’d been doin’ her wrong, so wrong

"The billiard sharp who any one catches, His doom's extremely hard - He's made to dwell In a dungeon cell On a spot that's always barred; And there he plays extravagant matches In fitless finger-stalls On a cloth untrue, With a twisted cue And elliptical billiard balls!"
G&S: The Mikado
Edit: Assume this entry is a discursive side-bar (in the same key) so eta's continuation runs true.

Well they all said Louise was not half bad It was written on the walls and window shades And how she'd act a little girl A deceiver, don't believe her, that's her trade Sometimes a bottle of perfume Flowers and maybe some lace Men brought Louise ten cent trinkets Their intentions were easily traced Yes and everybody knew at times she cried Ah but women like Louise well they get by

This desert rose Each of her veils, a secret promise This desert flower No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this
And as she turns This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams This fire burns I realise that nothing's as it seems
I dream of rain I dream of gardens in the desert sand

My heart have been broken And all my love's in vain Because the peoples always told me That a woman is the glory of a man.
If you whoop her when she needs it The judge will not let you explain Because he believes in justice And a woman is the glory of a man.
I rather be tired out on the desert or right out in the falling rain Than to lose my baby Because she is the glory of a man.

I can turn a gray sky blue. I can make it rain , whenever I want it to. Oh, I I can build a castle from a single grain of sand. I can make a ship sail, uh, on dry land.
But my life is incomplete and I'm so blue. 'Cause I can't get next to you.
I can't get next to you, babe. (Next to you) I can't get next to you. (I just can't get next you)

A gathering of angels appeared above my head They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said They said come sail away, come sail away Come sail away with me Come sail away, come sail away Come sail away with me

All colours bleed to red Asleep on the ocean's bed Drifting on empty seas For all my days remaining
But would north be true? Why should I? Why should I cry for you? Dark angels follow me Over a godless sea Mountains of endless falling, For all my days remaining,

The night was dark, rain falling down Looked for my baby she's nowhere around Traced her footsteps down to the shore 'Fraid she's gone forever more
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say I took your baby from you away I heard a voice crying in the deep Come join me baby in my endless sleep
Why did we quarrel, why did we fight Why did I leave her alone tonight That's why her footsteps ran into the sea That's why my baby is gone from me
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say I took your baby from you away I heard a voice crying in the deep Come join me baby in my endless sleep
Ran in the water, heart full of fear There in the breakers I saw her near Reached for my baby, held her to me Stole her back from the endless sleep
I looked at the sea and it seemed to say You took your baby from me away My heart cried out, she's mine to keep I saved my baby from that endless sleep

I had a keeper, he helped me warn the ships at sea. We had grown closer, 'till his joy meant everything to me.
And he was to marry, a girl who shone with beauty and light. And they loved each other, and with me watched the sunsets into night .
Chorus: And the waves crashing around me, the sand slips out to the sea. And the winds that blow remind me, of what has been, and what can never be.
She had to leave us, my keeper he prayed for a safe return. But when the night came, the weather to a raging storm had turned.
He watched her ship fight, but in vain against the wild and terrible WIND. In me so helpless, as dashed against the rock she met her end.

My father was the keeper of the Eddystone Light And he slept with a mermaid one fine night. Of this union there came three: A porpoise and a porgy and the other was me. . . Yo-ho-ho, the wind blows free, . . Oh, for the life on the rolling sea.
One night when I was a-trimmin' of the glim, A-singin' a verse of the Evenin' Hymn, A voice from the starboard shouted "Ahoy" And there was me mother, a-sittin' on a buoy. . . Yo-ho-ho, the wind blows free, . . Oh, for the life on the rolling sea.
"What has become of my children three?" My mother then she asked of me. "One was exhibited as a talking fish And the other was served on a chafing dish." . . Yo-ho-ho, the wind blows free, . . Oh, for the life on the rolling sea.
Well, the phosphorus flashed in her seaweed hair; I looked again and me mother wasn't there. A voice came echoing out of the night: "To Hell with the keeper of the Eddystone Light!" . . Yo-ho-ho, the wind blows free, . . Oh, for the life on the rolling sea.

http://www.corfid.com/gl/wreck.htm (Scroll down for background music) The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee' The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty. That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early.
The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most With a crew and good captain well seasoned Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ship's bell rang Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too, T'was the witch of November come stealin'. The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the Gales of November came slashin'. When afternoon came it was freezin' rain In the face of a hurricane west wind.
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin'. Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya. At Seven P.M. a main hatchway caved in, he said Fellas, it's been good t'know ya The captain wired in he had water comin' in And the good ship and crew was in peril. And later that night when his lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searches all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her. They might have split up or they might have capsized; May have broke deep and took water. And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion. Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams; The islands and bays are for sportsmen. And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her, And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the Gales of November remembered.
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed, In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral. The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call 'Gitche Gumee'. Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early! Pale was the wounded knight who bore the rowan shield; loud and cruel were the ravens' cries that feasted on the field, saying "Beck water cold and clear will never clean your wound - there's none but the Witch of the Westmoreland can make thee hale and sound."

That unseeing eye, reminds me of a midnight dream. It reminds me of somebody, that I have never seen.
Boys, you'd better be careful, about what you, say or do. You'd better be careful boys, about what you, might say or do. That Unseeing Eye, is, always, watching you.
Seems like you don't care, about what you say Seems, like you don't care, about the places you go Seems like you don't care, what you say or do But that Unseeing Eye, is, watching you.

seems like
SEEMS LIKE A LONG TIME
(by T. Anderson; (c) 1970)
Nighttime is only the other side of daytime but if you've ever waited for the sun you know what it's like to wish daytime would come And don't it seem like a long time seem like a long time, seem like a long, long time
Hard times are only the other side of good times but if you ever wished hard times were gone you know what it's like to wish good times would come And don't it seem like a long time seem like a long time, seem like a long, long time
Help me, seems like a long time seems like a long time, seems like a long, long time
And don't it seem like a long time seem like a long time, seem like a long, long time And don't it seem like a long time seem like a long time, seem like a long, long time And don't it seems like a long time seems like a long time, seems like a long, long time
You know it makes me sad seems like a long time, seems like a long time seems like a long, long time
War time is only the other side of peace time but if you've ever seen how wars are won you know what it's like to wish peace time would come And don't it seem like a long time seem like a long time, seems like a long, long time
*as performed by Brewer & Shipley, and Rod Stewart.

It's been a long time comin' It's goin' to be a long time gone. And it appears to be a long, Appears to be a long, Appears to be a long time, Yes, a long, long, long, long time, Before the dawn.
Turn, turn any corner. Hear, you must hear what the people say, You know there's something that's goin' on around here, That surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day. And it appears to be a long, (yes it does) Appears to be a long, Appears to be a long time, Such a long, long, time, Before the dawn.

Lay down your sweet and weary head Night is falling, you have come to journey's end. Sleep now, and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling from across the distant shore. Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see all of your fears will pass away, safe in my arms you're only sleeping. (refrain) What can you see on the horizon? Why do those white gulls call? Across the sea a pale moon rises -- The ships have come to carry you home. Dawn will turn to silver glass A light on the water - All souls pass. Hope fades into the world of night through shadows falling out of memory and time. Don't say, "We have come now to the end." White shores are calling you and I will meet again. And you'll be here in my arms just sleeping. (refrain) Annie Lennox "Into the West" (From the LOTR movie "Return of the King") edit - Listen to it here!!!

When I wake up early in the morning Lift my head, I'm still yawning When I'm in the middle of a dream Stay in bed, float up stream
Please, don't wake me, no, don't shake me Leave me where I am - I'm only sleeping

At eleven forty five the phone began to ring I heard someone say "Sonny Boy" and I know that was my name. "Who called you?" I don't know. I don't know. But I'm trying to get in touch with my Baby to find out why She disappoint me so.
I recieved a special delivery, I recieved a telegram Then she called me long distance to find out, where was I am "For what?" I don't know. Man, I just don't know But I'm still trying to get in touch with my Baby to find out why She disappoint me so.
I met the greyhoud bus. I met the train But she wasn't on either one, and I wanna know what was the blame. "You mean to tell me she didn't come, man?" I don't know. I don't know. But I've got my head in my hands wondering, why did my Baby Disappoint me so.

Climb upon my knee Sonny boy You are only 3 Sonny boy You have no way of knowing I have no way of showing What you mean to me Sonny boy When they are gray skies honey I don't mind those gray skies I'll still have you Sonny boy Don't you know that My friends may forsake me Let them go on and forsake me You're gonna pull me straight through Sonny boy You're sent from heaven And I know your worst You've made a heaven for me Right here on earth.

O beautiful for spacious skies, for am - ber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain! America! A - merica! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with broth - er - hood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet whose stern im - passion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat across the wil - der - ness.
America! A - merica! God mend thine ev' - ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self - control, thy lib - er - ty in law.
O beautiful for patriot dream that sees be - yond the years
Thine al-a-bas-ter cities gleam un - dim'd by hu - man tears. America! A - merica! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with broth - er - hood From sea to shining sea!

Death in the wilderness It's a hopeless case I guess Who's looking out for the wilder side It will soon all be gone You can tell it won't be long We'll find the wilderness has died We'll be the lonely one Concrete, plastic human throng Tellin' one another have you heard the news We'll mow it down, we'll rape the ground 'til there's nothing left to abuse The rabbit, he'll be gone The bird will sing no song The wolf, the bear, the lion too The insect far and near, creatures like the deer We'll put in cages a the zoo Death in the wilderness It's a hopeless case I guess Who's looking out for the wilder side It will soon all be gone You can tell it won't be long We'll find the wilderness has died The stream will all dry out The fish, gone no doubt We'll have no animals to fear The tree will be no more We'll use it to build the store Mountain scene will disappear These changes takin' place Will affect the human race We'll all know it when it's gone God save this planet now We've got to help somehow We've left it happen way too long Death in the wilderness It's a hopeless case I guess Who's looking out for the wilder side It will soon all be gone You can tell it won't be long We'll find the wilderness has died We'll find the wilderness has died

Chorus: This land is your land, this land is my land From California, to the New York Island From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway I saw above me an endless skyway I saw below me a golden valley This land was made for you and me
Chorus
I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me
Chorus
The sun comes shining as I was strolling The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling The fog was lifting a voice come chanting This land was made for you and me
Chorus
As I was walkin' - I saw a sign there And that sign said - no tress passin' But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me!
Chorus
In the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office - I see my people And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me.
Chorus (2x)

You And Me Against The World ( Helen Reddy )
You and me against the world Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world When all the others turn their back and walk away You can count on me to stay
Remember when the circus came to town And you were frightened by the clown? Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew? Someone who was big and strong and looking out for
You and me against the world Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world And for all the times we've cried I always felt that The odds were on our side
And when one of us is gone And one of us is left to carry on Then remembering will have to do Our memories alone will get us through Think about the days of me and you Of you and me against the world
Remember when the circus came to town And you were frightened by the clown? Wasn't it nice to be around someone that you knew? Someone who was big and strong and looking out for
You and me against the world Sometimes it feels like you and me against the world And for all the times we've cried I always felt that The odds were on our side
And when one of us is gone And one of us is left to carry on Then remembering will have to do Our memories alone will get us through Think about the days of me and you Of you and me against the world You and me against the world You and me against the world

Oh a sleeping drunkard up in central park Or the lion hunter in the jungle dark
Or the chinese dentist or the british queen They all fit together in the same machine
Nice, nice, very nice Nice, nice, very nice So many people in the same device
Oh a whirling dervish and a dancing bear Or a ginger rogers and a fred astaire
Or a teenage rocker or the girls in france Yes, we all are partners in this cosmic dance
Nice, nice, very nice Nice, nice, very nice So many people in the same device
I wanted all things to make sense So we'd be happy instead of tense
