Has anybody read the two novels mentioned by Anu in the lipogram explanation?

It seems that avoiding E in writing a novel would be quite difficult to do. I'm wondering if the plot suffered at the expense of the task.

Technically, it does not qualify as a lipogram, however I am reminded of the amusing James Thurber book, The Wonderful O where sea captain Black disavows "o"s because his mother got stuck in a porthole and couldn't be pulled in and had to be pushed out. Consequently, Captain Black not only eradicates words with "o"s, but items that contain "o" in their names, such as oboes and coffee.

Similarly, I am reminded of Steve Martin's piece for The New Yorker magazine, "Times Roman Font Announces Shortage of Periods" creating havoc for all writers, but especially "... writers who work in small choppy sentences..." Times Roman representatives offer substitutes as a temporary remedial measure.

Honourable mention should also be given to Mark Dunn's Ella Minnow Pea, a progressively lipogrammatic epistolary novel.
