Researchers at Michigan State University have announced the development of a robot arm (and hand) with which to perform breast examinations at a distance. The "hand" combines ultrasound with an artificial sense of touch. The hand moves, at the site of the remote examination, in response to the operators hand movements, at the medical facility, sensed by what they call "a haptic glove". Only Doctor Bill would know what a "haptic" glove might be.

Were the inventor named after the second king of Israel, that would make it the David Coppafeel Machine.

David Copperfield (whose true name is David Kotkin) first performed under the stage name "Davino the Boy Magician." He has done well. He is wealthy and his picture has appeared on the postage stamps of four different countries. But even he is not gonna be able to get Maverick out of hot water with Jackie. Nope, nope, nope.

A Haptic hand will never feel like the real thing. More on "Haptics" "Haptic devices rely on very small motors that, in turn, rely on magnets to make them work, said Dean Chang, chief technology officer at Immersion Corp. of San Jose, Calif., a company that makes and sells haptic devices for markets that include medical, automotive, and gaming. The gaming industry is a widespread user of haptic technology. When you use a joystick to fire a shot during a video game and you feel the reverberation of the gun, the sensation is courtesy of haptic feedback." http://snipurl.com/g487
