LOL! The first thing I thought of when I looked at that was: does anyone remember the five-minute foofaraw over Ebonics?

This too shall pass.

I got a kick out of this! You'll notice others commented on the offender's use of txt msg type shorthand, and I for one learned some new terms! (chav, pikey...)

BRAVE NEW SCHOOLS
Spelling bee nixed because it 'leaves child behind'
District cancels event claiming it conflicts with Bush education plan

A school district in Rhode Island canceled its annual spelling bee this year because administrators decided the crowning of only one winner violates the main principle of the federal No Child Left Behind Act – that all children should succeed.

Linda Newman, assistant superintendent of schools in Lincoln, R.I., said it's her understanding that President Bush's education initiative says all children must reach high standards, which conflicts with the spelling bee, the Woonsocket Call of Rhode Island reported.

"It's about one kid winning, several making it to the top and leaving all others behind," Newman said of the competition, which culminates with the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. "That's contrary to No Child Left Behind."

A spelling bee, she continued, is about "some kids being winners, some kids being losers," which "sends a message that this isn't an all-kids movement."

That was great, by--thanks; I'm glad ur 1a my peeps. These were my favorite comments, I think:
i am who i am. people shouldn't have a go at me just because the way i type. it that better for you?

Yes, your comment comes across allot more credible to be honest.

But ppl on here are tards and can't read shorthand stuff

I learned more about chavs (speaking of which, I was suprised to hear a ref. to Burberrys in a song on the radio the other day) and pikeys, too, and also figured out (correctly, I hope) that tbh = to be honest.

And I love their little "off topic!" smiley (frowny).

Can any of you Brits enlighten me on whether it is "better" there to live in a trailer or a Council house?

This topic is worth debating on a separate thread.

Trust me - this nonsense is a masterful work of art compared to the gibberish that I, as a teenager that loves online multiplayer games, have read countless times from illiterate, careless 7-year-olds. It's quite disappointing and saddening. My generation is killing our language.

Laziness is no excuse. I can't believe that people would have no respect for their native language - but maybe I'm just a logophile.

We've tossed 'chav' and 'pikey' around before:

In addition to 'English', another antonym to 'Ebonics' would be what? 'Ivronics'?
