I think that (the)Wikipedia has a pretty good editorial board, Jackie. they don't let just anything get posted.

Thanks, eta; but I'm still feeling a mixture of outrage and humiliation. I suppose I should have read the explanation, or something, before assuming. Sigh.
Yes, I can see where it would be pretty easy to eliminate the "crank" writings. However, this leaves all too open the possibility for just the kind of thing that drives me crazy: "information" that sounds correct but isn't. Just think how many people, reading that Vermont was the 15th. state to join the Union, would believe it. You know better and I know better, but hundreds of thousands wouldn't.
Kentucky was 15th.; Vermont was 14th.

[Wikipedia] don't let just anything get posted.

Yeah, but that isn't what I said. They do let anybody edit entries. On those two pages whose URLs you posted, see the little edit buttons? Click on one and edit away. Try going to a subject you know a lot about and check how accurate it is. Wikipedia is rather good, all in all.

Also, print dictionaries and encyclopedias have editorial boards, and those editors have their opinions and pet peeves. Just like newspapers and school textbooks, etc.

I was replying to Jackie, nuncle...
I realize that onyone can edit at Wikipedia, but there is a group that oversees much of the content, as well as the rest of the at-large contributors. the content will be quite accurate ipso-facto, eh?

rather good, all in all
