When did journal become a verb? I know it is a noun but it is also being used as a verb. I heard it used as a verb at a writers conference in 2000 and I have heard the term many times since then. It is not in the dictionary yet but I know it is in use. The word journaling is also in use. Does any one know when this happened?

I've noticed the same with "scrapbook." Verbifying nouns is a time-honored tradition, though the phenomenon seems to be occurring a lot more often these days. We shall await the lexical pundits.

COED has a citation from 1803.
